Advantages: Delicious, flavoursome, perfect combination of ingredients, delicious pools of garlic butter

Disadvantages: Absolutely none at all!

A couple of days before Christmas a friend of mine popped in who I haven't seen for a while, she mentioned she hadn't had anything to eat so I took a Dr Oetker Ristorante pizza out of the freezer to rustle us up a spot of lunch.

This is the first time I have tried Ristorante pizza so I was quite surprised to see how thin it was when I slid it out of the box, it's much thinner than the usual pizza I buy from Tesco or Sainsbury's and it's quite obvious that this is going to be a 'thin 'n' crispy' rather than deep pan pizza.

The one we ate was Pizza Mozzarella and even frozen it looked delicious! There are seven flat rounds of mozzarella cheese arranged on the top of the pizza, I can see a small amount of grated cheese among them and also a generous scattering of tomato pieces as well as a few small piles of what looks like spinach.

The cooking instructions are spot on and our pizza was cooked perfectly at Gas Mark 6 for 10 minutes. Within two minutes of this being in the oven my kitchen was filled with the delicious aroma of fresh pizza, mingled with a very subtle garlic smell. After removing it from the oven I found the pizza had crisped up nicely and it was very easy to cut up using my super duper pizza slicing wheel, the mozzarella kept its shape beautifully and the pizza slices looked delicious placed on a plate with the crisp salad I had prepared.

From the very first bite I realised I will never eat another brand of frozen pizza, this is special and tasted so authentic that I couldn't quite believe that this had come out of the freezer!

The base is crispy yet has retained a tasty doughy flavour, which is unusual for thin 'n' crispy pizzas as I usually find the base of these to be lacking in flavour and rather bland. The mozzarella is moist and flavoursome and seemed so much tastier and more interesting than the same cheese grated over a pizza, I checked the box and the grated cheese I had spotted is in fact Edam and this adds a nuttiness to the pizza as a whole. It's melted down nicely and there is very little on there so that I can taste the other flavours, again this compares well with other frozen pizzas because they tend to use so much cheese that that is often all I can taste.

The tomato pieces stay nicely textured, retaining a bit of bite rather than being soggy as often happens when tomato has been frozen and re-thawed in any meal. What I had originally taken for spinach is in fact small pools of garlic butter which I think seasons the pizza beautifully. These pools are located near the mozzarella so that as you cut the pizza into slices it dribbles down into the base and infuses the whole pizza with a very gentle garlic flavour which is absolutely delicious.

The tomato sauce used on the pizza base is excellent quality; rich and tangy with a definite basil flavour which shines through the toppings and compliments the cheese beautifully. It's a nice thick sauce too which serves to hold together all the different parts of the pizza together and will leave you licking your lips in delight.

From now on this is the only frozen pizza I will buy, I got this one when it was on special offer in Tesco for £1.29 but I believe the full price is around £2.50 which is still excellent value considering what a high quality and extremely delicious pizza this is.

Summary: The best frozen pizza I've ever eaten, delicious.
