Heinz Beanz Snap Pots
Advantages: Good sized portions, very quick and convenient
Disadvantages: Not essential - and they always seem to leak!
Beans on toast - can you beat it? When I discovered these little individual pots, I couldn't wait to try them out!
*** What are they? ***
There are four plastic pots, weighing 200g each, which are joined together, but snap apart easily, and they come housed in a cardboard package. Each pot has a plain, see-through plastic film on the top and the pot is plain blue, so the individual pots are design-free.
All you have to do is simply peel back the film and pop the pot in the microwave for a mere one minute, and there you have it - a small, perfectly formed portion of piping hot beans.
*** Beany madness? ***
But is this convenience food gone mad? Ultimately, this isn't so much easier than just emptying a small tin into a bowl and bunging it in the microwave but, hey it's one less thing to wash up!
One complaint is that I find the pots always, without fail, leak during the cooking time, and I end up wiping up bean sauce from the microwave (so maybe this doesn't save on the washing up after all!). So what I tend to do now is drain off a little of the sauce before cooking, and this seems to help.
We all know what the baked beans themselves taste like, and to me these are exactly the same in taste as the ones you get in a tin, so at least the flavour hasn't been compromised to make these micro-friendly.
*** Kiddy friendly ***
These little pots are a great size to give kids - on toast or alongside their dinner. I also find they are quite handy to take with you if you are staying at a friends or going away somewhere that you know there'll be a microwave and you'll want something quick to feed the little ones!
*** Summary ***
Overall, these are a very handy non-essential! They retail at around the £1.70 mark. You can also get them in the reduced sugar and salt variety, and spaghetti hoops.
Summary: A good one for the store cupboard
