You'll need about 3 medium sized potatoes (although it doesn't have to be exact), and a handful of cheese which is optional but does finish it off nicely and make it go crispy on top. The bake is made by peeling the potatoes then slicing them into 1cm slices. You line an ovenproof dish with the potatoes, cover with half of the sauce, then another layer of...more

I haven't tried this potato bake for years, in fact I'm not sure what possessed me to buy it to be honest but I think it was on offer and I fancied a changed so it went in the trolley. We had this with some chicken pieces from the freezer which took 40 minutes to cook, and I quite liked the idea of sticking everything in the oven and not having to stand over the hob for an hour. The potato bake comes in two flavours that I know of, which are ham and cheese, and this one which I picked up which was garlic and herb. They are part of the Homerpide range of cooking sauces which are aimed at making your life a bit easier and although the results aren't quick, the ...  Read the complete review

Don't you just hate wasting time and gas on a food product that just ends up tasting disgusting? This was the worst hour and a half spent on this dish and a total waste of expensive gas. I don't know what possessed me to purchase Homepride potato bake garlic and herb flavour sauce in the first place, the garlic bit should have alerted me to avoid, but no I assumed because it's a Homepride brand this is going to taste good. Homepride potato bake garlic and herb is a 500g jar with a blue top and a blue label with a picture of the potato bake and Fred. I'm told there is no need to boil potatoes, it contains no artificial colours or ...  Read the complete review

We've had this in the cupboard for a while and as I've taken a couple of flexi-days off work and have more time to cook I decided to see what it was like. Packaging: The sauce comes in a standard glass jar with a screw top lid. The label covers around one third of the jar and has the Homepride logo and the front along with a "no need to boil potatoes" badge. We're also told that this sauce contains no artificial colours or flavours. The rest of the label contains the ingredients, nutritional information, cooking information and the contact details for HL Foods who are the owners of the Homepride brand. You can visit the ...  Read the complete review

Lazy potato bake - no need to boil potatoes (340 words)

I like to bake everything from scratch so a potato bake would usually involve a basic roux sauce (butter, flour and milk), grated cheese, lots of fresh herbs from the garden and some par-boiled chucnky potato slices. Unfortunately the man in my life occassionally feeels the need to be helpful and on this occassion his help arrived inside a £1.69 jar of Homepride Garlic and Herb Potato Bake. Fortunately he decided to make dinner too so. The jar label features an appetising looking baking dish with a golden brown topping and the phrase "no need to boil potatoes". Perhaps this explains his sudden willingness to cook. The instructions on the ...  Read the complete review
