Iceland Beef Roast Dinner
Advantages: Authentic Carrots, Meat Was Fair, Yorkshire Pudding, Easy To Make, Hot, Filling
Disadvantages: Disgusting Peas, Sauce, Adequate Potatoes
I bought this meal from Iceland for a national price of £1.75. It's one of their standard frozen meals, which are cooked from frozen to be eaten. It comes in a cardboard box with a bright £1.75 square on the top. It's a big value pack and below it says 'Beef Roast Dinner' showing a picture of the contents.
Inside the box is a container with the various things. The potatoes are in one part and the meat and vegetables are in another. There is also a Yorkshire pudding by itself, which is cooked too. You can microwave it all in around 10 minutes depending on your microwave wattage.
It all cooks thoroughly as it's a ready meal but you must read the very simple guidelines are you are required to cook certain parts for longer before adding the rest. The meal is all steaming hot when it comes out. Make sure you don't leave the odd potato in the box and realise after that it wasn't cooked - like I did.
I didn't think the quality of the meal was excellent, but I was even more disappointed in the taste. The meat tasted alright but nothing special. You got 3 thin cuts of beef and it wasn't very tasteful. The vegetables were pretty vile really.
The carrots at least tasted real although I am not too fond of them but the peas were vile! This was all in a thick sauce, which looked nice but tasted of nothing so it felt like I was just eating pure fat.
The potatoes were slightly better but still not overly nice. I think the only nice thing on my plate, which I had to eat in one go, was the Yorkshire pudding. It tasted like a good Yorkshire pudding and had a nice flavour. So overall, I would not say the meal tasted at all great however it was pretty easy to prepare and it was something hot and filling.
In conclusion, it's not one of the best meals I've had from Iceland. It tasted good in parts such as the Yorkshire pudding and the meat was alright, but the rest wasn't great and the peas and sauce were vile. It's very easy to prepare, but not as straight forward as other Iceland meals. However, it is hot when it's ready and it was quite filling, despite having to force some of it down, it didn't come back up luckily! Not really recommended as it was not a £1.75 well spent.
Thanks for reading,
Summary: Not the nicest meal I have had - some had to be forced down
