Advantages: Nice taste, cheap, low calories

Disadvantages: None

I often use the Loyd Grossman tomato pasta sauces as I find them quick and easy to make and also very tasty and of a good quality. This is what got me interested in his curry sauces. Now, I've already tried the Tikka Masala flavour which I really liked but my husband is not the biggest fan. He doesn't really like creamy curry sauces and this one is quite creamy and has honey and yogurt in it so I decided to try one of his other ones. He does have varieties such as Rogan Josh, Thai Chilli, Balti, Korma etc but I find ones like the Korma and Madras way too hot so I settled on the Bhuna as I know from actual Indian Restaurants that these are very flavourful but also quite mild and not too creamy.

The Bhuna sauce is described by Loyd Grossman as a mild curry sauce with tomatoes, onions and spices. According to the jar, Bhuna is actually a method of cooking originally used in Delhi where ground spices are stirred and fried at a high temperature which intensifies the flavours. Before I even tried this sauce this made it sound to me really quite tasty and flavourful.

I bought the jar at Sainsburys. I guess it was a little expensive at £2.09 for a 425g jar but if you compare this to £5+ for an actual curry then it is a bargain.

The sauce has quite a nice consistency, thick without being too chunky. You can definitely tell that there are a lot of chopped vegetables in this sauce and it is definitely not bland. It is definitely a tomato based sauce as the sauce is very red and juicy. In fact, 26% of this sauce is made up of tomatoes in juice and 25% of it is tomato puree. Each jar serves two people I would say, pouring the sauce over chicken but it is suitable for vegetarians which is nice. The great thing about this curry sauce is that it's quick and easy, all you have to do is brown some chicken, throw over the sauce, heat it up and you are ready to go.

I would say this is one of his healthier sauces as the whole jar contains about 540 calories but when you think that you will only eat half per person then it is about 270 calories which is not bad for an evening meal.

The nice thing is as well is that Loyd has a website linked with his sauces where you can find recipes and product information plus more which definitely helps in cooking and planning meals. The address is www.loydgrossmansauces.co.uk

If you're looking for a quick and easy curry in the evening that is also healthy then you have found a wonderful product with a great taste. I recommend you try everything else he has on offer!
