      Very helpful

      Nice for an occasional treat.

Normally I take in sandwiches or salad from home for my lunch at work, but today I was simply not that organised......so when I found myself close to Marks & Spencers foodhall, I thought I would nip in and see what I could get, and would consider it a treat......

I didn't really fancy a sandwich, so began to look at the salads, and was taken by a crayfish and mango salad - what actually caught my eye was the pot of coconut and lime dressing that was inside.......a veritable symphony of flavours was beckoning.

Then I saw the price - it was £4.00!!! That is quite a lot in my book for a salad, but there seemed to be a good amount of crayfish in there, which is presumably the expensive bit, and like I say, I was going to see it as a treat, so I thought "what the heck" and headed to the till.

After the pain of paying, I took my salad back to my desk. Now, this is a good sized portion which really could do two ordinarily hungry bods or one "man-size" hungry bod, so it is quite a substantial size.

The bottom layer of the salad is a rice mixture - white and wild rice, with chopped peppers and spices. This provides a good amount of filling food, and with it being carbohydrate, will keep you full for the rest of the day.

Then to one side of the pot there is a green salad, with a mixture of leaves including baby beetroot leaves and lambs lettuce - nothing bitter, plenty of it, but not too much.

To the other side there is a good amount of crayfish tails, and a handful of diced fresh mango pieces, together with the pot of coconut and lime dressing.

On opening the easy peel lid, I poured the dressing over the salad. There is a reasonable amount of dressing and it tastes absolutely divine - but in my opinion there could do with being just a little bit more as the rice element of the dish could be considered a little boring without it.

The mango was a little hard - I like my mango just a little bit riper, but this didn't really spoil my lunch. The sweetness of the fruit was a lovely addition to this salad, and as a result of eating it today, I would certainly consider buying a whole fruit and adding it to my salads at home.

I thoroughly enjoyed this lunch - the flavours complemented each other really well, and it was filling. Many shop bought salads leave me feeling either bored with my food, or still hungry, but this one did neither - I couldn't complete the whole pot, so it was obviously quite filling.

Because of the generous size of this meal, the calorie content is fairly high, at 510 calories per portion, with 2.2grammes of saturated fat. When you consider, however, the amount of food you are getting, I feel that this is a reasonable calorie count.

I would definitely see this as a treat - to spend that much on a lunch every day would be ridiculous to me - and it is one of M&S's more expensive salads, but for the size and content I would go for it again, and would recommend it to anyone else looking for something filling and yummy.

I am marking this down by 1 star for the hard mango, and the fact that I thought it could do with some additional dressing, but other than that, it was a 5* salad!
