Advantages: Different taste from everyday chips Very Moreish Indeed!
Disadvantages: The waistline can get bigger if you keep eating these BE WARNED!!
As you may know from my other reviews, that we do like like our wedges. So I thought I would tell you about these McCain Beer Battered ridge cut Chips.As they are really delicous!!
One day I was in my local Morrisons when I saw that these were in their end freezer where they do the special offers and were on price for £1 a packet. This bags weighs 750g and hold the most tasty chip ever. This bag is very eyecatching as it has a large white plate on the front cover with a crisp green salad, rump steak and these golden crispy beer battered chips! With a sack of potato's to one side. With the McCain logo and Beer Battered Chips emblazoned across the middle.
Now I've snipped across the top of the bag and when peering inside you will find a large amount of finger sized crinkley orange looking chip that has a golden looking coating sitting in the ridges. This must be the Beer Battered coating, these chips are quite thick as well.
You can cook these under a grill on a medium heat for about 13-15 minutes making sure to turn every few minutes. I prefer to cook mine in the oven ( as I've said before I'm a bit lazy as I like to mingle with family & friends rather than stand over a grill turning things!).Now to cook these in the oven turn it on to 240C/475F/Gas 9, spread out a single layer on a baking tray and cook for 20-24 minutes. It does say keep turning, but I tend to just turn them the once which seems good enough and they turn a lovely golden crispy colour!
Once dished up they disappear of the plates in no time, on tasting them they have a delicous crispy coating, different from any other chips I've ever tasted and as you bite into them it turns to a soft fluffy potato. There is a different taste to these but it is hard to describe except to say that these really are very moriesh indeed. My son and his girlfriend had seen these in Iceland and didn't buy them as they said that they definitely would not like the taste of these, so when they popped over one night as I was dishing these up for the rest of the family they had some as well.
Not liking them was the understatement of the year, I think there would have been a punch up if I hadn't put another bag into the oven quick!!!
So another two people converted to these fab chips!
These chips per 100g oven cooked are;
~~~Calories 220~~~
~~~Fat 10.1%~~~
~~~Saturates 1.1g~~~
~~~Sugar 0.5g~~~
~~~Salt 1.2g~~~
These are suitable for Vegetarians and are made with Sunflower Oil, the funny thing is that these chips are alcohol free!
So these chips will get a big fat golden 5 stars from me and all my family!!
Summary: A really lovely chip that will have you grabbing these instead of the bland normal ones!
