      Not for me

I don't often go to Morrisons as there is not one near me. However the other day on the way back from a friend's house I decided to pop into one and see if I could get something to eat for dinner the following day. I headed to the ready meals section as I was in a lazy mood and saw this Morrisons Chinese Chicken and Mushroom Meal.

The meal comes in a plastic tray which is packaged inside a pink and black cardboard box. The box has a photo of the meal on it which shows large succulent looking pieces of chicken inside a sauce with lots of big, yummy looking sliced mushrooms.

The box describes the meal as 'Strips of British chicken, button and Shiitake mushrooms in an oriental style sauce finished with spring onions served with fluffy egg fried rice'.

The meal was in the frozen section and does not need to be defrosted before cooking which makes it very convenient. It is easily microwaved in around 11 minutes or you can put it in the oven for 45 minutes instead.

Once cooked the meal looked a bit dubious and tasted worse. There was a lot of chicken but it was tough and stringy and not at all soft or juicy. I also only counted two mushrooms and they were more like sloppy blobs. I certainly couldn't see lots of large mushroom pieces like I was shown on the packet. The sauce was really thick and unpleasant and sticky, and the rice wasn't great either. I ended up leaving quite a bit of the meal.

The meal cost me £2 although it is part of a continuous '3 for £5' offer with other ready meals in the range. Considering you can get nice ready meals from brands like Sharwoods for only around £1.50 I think this is a bit expensive.

In every 500 gram pack of this meal there are 557 calories, 7.5 grams of sugar and 9 grams of fat. This isn't excessive so it's probably ok for people watching their weight.

I wouldn't recommend this though as there are so many nice ready meals out there that it seems silly to spend money on one that is as below average as this one.
