“ Brand: Morrisons / Type: Other Ready Meals „
When it comes to quick and easy to prepare foods I just love them. I am very well aware that home made is probably best but lets be honest with each-other for a second. I have an eating disorder and I can't be bothered fussing about and giving too much time to preparing food. If I wanna eat then I wanna eat and time is of the essence! lol.
I don't normally shop in Morrisons but one night I was near a store and decided to pop in and grab a few items and at the time I was ravaneous, it was getting late and it was actually a cold night with a long journey home on 2 buses! I saw this mash at 37p a packet and thought that will be my tea! Simple as that really lol.
Light green oblong packet with a picture of the mash (in patties) on the front. In light and dark green and white writing I'm told it is Morrisons Quick & Easy Mash 'With Cheese And Chive' and that it is made with real potatoes. There is a nutritional at a glance rundown on the bottom of the packet along with being told it is Vegetarian and the size is stated (100g and the only size this is available to purchase in) and the best before date is clearly stamped on in black ink. On the back of the packet (this time all in small black writing on a white background) I'm told a bit about the product, ingredients are listed and allergy advice is given, a full nutritional chart is there, I'm told how to make the mash up, given a recipe suggestion for fish cakes, I'm given advice on how to store it, given contact details for Morrisons and finally there is a bar-code on there. Nice enough large packet...this is and it's easy to open etc.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Packet....
Cheese flavoured instant dried mashed potato garnished with dried chive flakes. Ready in seconds.
How To Prepare It....
Empty contents of sachet into a medium sized bowl.
Add 425m (3/4 pint) of boiling water and an optional 158 (1/0z) of butter.
Mix well with a fork.
Me And The Mash....
This is so easy to make up I was shocked as I'd never tried a product like this before lol. I opened my packet and shook the creamy coloured powder with lots of green flakes into a large bowl and as instructed added boiling water to it. I literally stirred it up for less than a minute and didn't add butter (through choice) with a fork and it wasn't any effort at all.
It puffed up into loads of mash really quickly. It looked like mash, smelt of cheese and onion although consistency wise it was peaked and firm it was a bit gloopy and had a bit of a hint of a green colour to it.
Taste wise I was surprised by it though. No lumps, well seasoned, sure a little gloopy but firm enough, you could detect the cheese flavour although in my view only marginally but you could taste dried chives and onion powder in the main within it. My only complaint about this was that there were too many chives in this and that they were really dry in the mouth (although I blended very well) and that flavour overpowered anything else. I couldn't taste any potato really (although this is made with real ones).
Filling and plenty of it. I wouldn't say this is as good as home made of course but talk about simplicity and I for one would be interested in making fish cakes or something with this rather than eating it alone. Cheap and cheerful don't get the impression this is a mess, it actually isn't but for me a little overpowered on the onions that's all!
