“ Brand: Oakhurst / Type: Chicken „
these are the worst chicken kievs we have ever hadin fact they made our family ill with 24 hour upset stomachgod knows what is them I dread to thinkcan't believe aldi is passing such trash onto their customersthese need a health warning on the packethad to select one star to proceed but not worth that
I have usually found Aldi products acceptable but sadly this was so bad I couldn't eat it. It was simple to cook, but the oven tray was full of fat after the allotted cooking time. In was therefore a chicken Kiev , minus the Kiev. The texture of the chicken was spongy and it was obviously reconstituted with something else.Goodness knows what, I physically could not eat it without gagging. It was absolutely tasteless too. When you scraped the breadcrumbs off, the surface was grainy, not smooth like a chicken breast.I don't know what else to say except avoid at all costs. As I always say, you buy cheap, you get cheap, its what was mixed with the cheap that worries me. The seagulls had a feast on it though. If I could give a 0 or minus rating then I would, but unfortunately it won't allow me to do so
I do like the occasional Chicken Kiev if I want something easy to cook for dinner and cannot be bothered making something. Usually in the freezer we have a pack which are most often the own brand supermarket label ones. When I was in Aldi recently I saw this particular brand on their shelves, a pack of two was on offer for a pound so I thought I would give them a try and I was really glad that I did. Aparently they have the lowest fat contents when tested against other brands according to the Sunday Mirror however there is no compromise when it cmes to taste unlike some other low fat versions that I have tried. This is not to say that this is something you should consider for calorie control as the food is basically bread crumbs with a hicken fillet and then garlic butter so plenty of calories there due to the bread crumbs and butter content. Each pack contains two kievs and I must say it smelled lovely whilst in the oven. I found that the chicken was lovely and tender and the garlic butter had a strong taste and was rich and creamy unlike some of the liquid versions you get with some brands. The outer coating of bread crumbs gave it a crisp shel although to be hones I would gladly dispense with the bread crumbs as I doi not thing they add anything to the taste and it would bring down the calorie count.
