Quorn Southern Style Burgers
Advantages: Crispy breadcrumb coating, succulent Quorn
I have been a vegetarian now for seven years and always enjoy finding new food to try. I have worked my way through most of Quorn's products now, the most recent being the Southern Style Burgers.
I have eaten Quorn Chicken Style Burgers many times, but had not thought about the Southern Style, because I thought they might be too spicy. I am really glad now, that I decided to give them a go.
*What is Quorn?*
For anyone who hasn't eaten or came across Quorn before, the following is a brief description:
Quorn is a mycoprotein, which is a member of the fungi family. It is high in protein and dietary fibre, low in fat and has zero cholesterol and trans fat. It is also low in calories.
Quorn Southern Style Burgers are best cooked from frozen. I cooked mine in a preheated oven at Gas Mark 7 / 425F / 220C for 12 minutes.
The burgers came out of the oven a deep golden colour. The breadcrumbs, were crisp and crunchy and I couldn't wait to tuck in. I had my burger in a bun with a slice of tomato, lettuce and a dollop of mayo. I also had chips on the side.
Biting into the burger, I found the expected, thick slice of succulent chicken style Quorn. The combination of the crunchy, peppery breadcrumbs, and the melt in the mouth Quorn is just perfect. The breadcrumbs did have a bit of a spiciness to them, but not overly so and not enough to burn your mouth off. Combined with the mayo and cooling effect of the lettuce and tomato, I found the burger just right for me. Those that do like hot, spicy food may be a little disappointed.

Quorn Southern Style Burgers can be found in major supermerkets at around £1.60. They come in a pack of four, which makes them good value for money in my opinion.
They are great for lunch in a bun or can be eaten as part of a main meal, with potatoes and a selection of vegetables.
These are now a firm favourite with my family and I will be buying them on a regular basis.
Summary: Quorn Southern Style Burgers - breadcrumb coated burgers with a peppery kick.
