      Very helpful

I do love spicy foods and when I saw this in my local Sainsbury's priced at £1.29 I really fancied it with some naan bread for a quick supper! I'm not much of a cook and when out of the gym I'm flipping starving and this promising to heat up from chilled in my microwave in 3 minutes flat.... seemed a good buy to me! lol.

      The Packaging....

Black square, and fairly deep pot with a clear film over that and a cardboard sleeve that slides on and off. On the front sections of the sleeve there is a photograph of the 'Aloo' and I'm told it is Sainsbury's 'Indian' Aloo Saag and that it is medium in the hotness stakes, it is produced in the UK, Vegetarian and freezable, free from hydrogenated fats, artificial colours and flavours and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there along with the best before date being clearly displayed. Other information on the sleeve gives me cooking instructions, ingredients, allergy advice and storage information, contact details for Sainsbury's are given and finally there is bar-code on there. Neat and totally recyclable packaging this is!

      How To Cook it:

In the oven on Gas Mark 5/Electric 190C for 40 minutes from chilled or for 1 hr and 10 minutes in the pot it comes in from frozen. Or like me you can microwave it from chilled in about 3 minutes or from frozen in 6 minutes.

      My Experience With It:

Well like I said I bunged mine in the microwave in the tub it came in (as directed) and with piercing the lid a few times to vent the steam. Cold it looked nothing special and a bit stodgy really and I wasn't filed with glee at the prospect of eating this at all. However as it cooked I got a lovely authentic smell of garlic and coriander and started to look forward to me dinner as the aroma wafted out of my kitchen!

When I plopped it on my plate I was actually impressed. It wasn't a huge tub but it seemed to have hidden depths to it and I had loads of the stuff! Lots of largish cubes of well formed and well cooked potatoes with some fresh looking green spinach leaves, onions and slices of tomatoes all in a brownish sauce that again held well, had body to it and wasn't runny or greasy or anything like that. Taste wise again I was impressed! This was a robust and filling dish and very interesting to eat as every mouthful changed slightly cos of so many ingredients being in it!

Everything was well cooked, the spinach was tasty and not stalky or anything. The sauce was medium hot in flavour (had a bit of a kick to it but wasn't blow your brains out hot!) though you could taste a subtle hint of chilli but it was very well blended with cumin powder, cumin seed, turmeric and fenugreek and all that was mixed with a light mix of coconut milk to obviously calm the heat side of things down.

It was really tasty, spicy and I loved he way it wasn't dry or by the same token soggy. It was simply a nice, good quality side dish and I heartily recommend this to you!

      Allergy Advice,..

      Contains milk, celery & mustard.
Not suitable for peanut, nut or sesame allergy sufferers due to the methods used in the manufacturer of this product.
