A good tasting, if small, Roast Lamb dinner.

I sometimes buy meals for one; this is really due to a bit of laziness I think. Sometimes if its just me at home on my own, then I can't really see the point of cooking a big dinner from scratch; Occasionally i'll make a curry or a casserole that may last a couple of days; however, I like to have things in the freezer which are quick and easy to cook.

For a long tome now I have been buying roast dinners for one; on and off I like them. I saw Sainsburys version a couple of months ago and I thought I'd give it a go.

The meal itself looks quite appealing from the picture on the box. It shows a couple of slices of the roast lamb, plenty of small roast potatoes and what I would call petite pois and sliced carrots. The meal is covered in what looks like a delicious tasting gravy.

I have to say I am happy with this meal overall. The carrots come out just right; not hard and inedible; There are plenty of roast potatoes which taste fine and the lamb is tender. Admittedly it's a bit small portion wise but it tastes good. I also like the petit pois in the meal and topping it all up; the gravy tastes as good as it looks with a nice meaty flavour. On the downside; this really is a pretty small meal; not really enough for me. It would have been nicer to have perhaps a little more lamb and perhaps a Yorkshire pudding.

The meal itself costs £2.00 and at the moment there is a special offer on; if you buy 2 you get the second meal half price. I would suggest that £1.50 is about the right price for this. For what it is, in my own view £2.00 per meal is a bit expensive due to its small size. I would suggest that the portion size is enough for a child but too small for an Adult really.

All in all this is a tasty little Roast lamb dinner; deserving of 4 stars from me.
