I love potato wedges and make my own quite a lot because none of the frozen ones ever taste as good as using fresh potatoes. I like getting a nice flavour on wedges though because if they're too plain they get boring I think. Schwartz have been doing these powdery coatings for AGES but the supermarkets are pushing them big time at the minute, I hadn't seen the Onion & Chive ones before so got a sachet in Tesco yesterday.
It is a powder that you put on raw potato wedges with a spoon of oil and then cook the wedges. The coating goes a bit crispy and has got a lovely strong flavour, the sachet does 4 potatoes and that's about 600g so easy enough to do 4 people if you're having the potatoes with something else. It doesn't look like there is going to be enough powder to coat the potatoes properly but the taste is strong so you don't need a thick layer.
I make sure I coat the potato wedges completely and try not to get clumps of the powder, ALL these Schwartz wedge coatings are proper dusty if you get too much in one place and I didn't risk it with this onion one because I reckon it would have been too tangy to eat! lol
The main taste in these is the onions and it's got a herby taste as well, I don't know if it's chives but I can deffo taste some herbs. I think it's got quite a salty taste but I love the way it goes a bit crunchy. You can have this powder on potatoes that have been left unpeeled, I didn't try that because my potatoes weren't dead fresh and needed peeling! lol Without the peel they were yummy and I reckon WITH the peel these wedges would be even better.
Recommended..... 94p a sachet and ALWAYS on special offer at the minute, delish flavouring for yummy homemade wedges!!!
