      Brilliant ready meal

Sometimes I don't feel like cooking, and for days like that, or days when I am in a rush, I find it convenient to have a ready meal or two waiting handily in the freezer. I am always on the look out for nice new ones, and having tried and enjoyed Sharwoods Szechuan Chicken with Rice Meal, I decided to try another meal from the same Taste of China range.

Sharwoods Chicken in Black Bean Sauce with Rice Meal comes in a small cardboard box decorated in oriental looking colours and patterns, with a tasty looking picture of the meal on the front. Inside the cardboard box is a black plastic tray covered in cellophane which contains the meal, and which the meal is cooked in.

The meal is really convenient to make. It can be cooked directly from frozen so you don't have to think ahead and defrost it the day before. It takes around ten minutes in the microwave, and you just have to stir it halfway through, so it's really very simple. If you don't have a microwave then you can also put it in the oven.

Once the meal is cooked it smells lovely. It contains quite a few large pieces of chicken, unlike some meals where you get three little bits along with a lot of sauce! You can also see peppers and onions in the sauce. The chicken is lovely and tender, not too chewy, and the sauce is really nice. It is very tasty but not so spicey that your mouth hurts afterwards! The rice is always well cooked and not too tough.

Each meal contains 448 calories, 11 grams of sugar and 5.5 grams of fat. This does not make it the healthiest of options but it is not too bad for a ready meal, especially the fat content. It also has less than a third of the sugar of the Szechuan Chicken version so I will be having this one in future.

This is one of the nicest ready meals I've ever had, and even better it is not too expensive! Normally it costs between £1.50 to £2 but Asda is offering it for £1 at the minute!
