“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Chicken „
I bought two of these ready meals on Tesco's 2 for £6.00 deal. These otherwise retail individually at £4.65 so you get quite a saving in you buy them this way.
These are meals for 1 (500g) and the curry part is made up of tender pieces of tandoori marinated chicken breast in a creamy tomato and butter sauce, enriched with cashew nut and Indian spices. The recipe is blended exclusively for Finest and some information on the packaging informs you that this particular recipe is a modern cersion of the traditional Murgh Makhani. The cooking is down in stages so that you get layers of flavour within the dish. Freshly chopped coriander and chopped cashew nuts are used in the finishing stages of cooking and these garnishes help to give this dish a depth of flavour and additional richness to the sauce.
The chicken is itself has been marinated in a blend of tandoori spices, chilli, ginger and yogurt before it is roasted. What this all adds up to in my opinion is beautifully succulent, soft pieces of chicken breast that are full of flavour and very balanced overall. This curry is neither too hot nor too mild and has just the right amount of spice and creaminess to make it a delicious dish.
The accompanying rice is aromatic lemon pilau rice which goes very well well with the rich buttery sauce as it combats this richness with a little zest and acidity.
The portion size is very generous as far as the chicken and sauce goes and you do get quite a few decent sized pieces of chicken with it. The rice is adequate for me as I don't eat too much rice but others might prefer a little more. We have naan bread with ours as there is a lot of sauce that can be mopped up with this.
Each pack contains 815 cals, 10.5g of sugar, 38.1g of fat of which 13.5g is saturated fat and also 3g of salt so this is one of the least healthy products I have come across but sod's law the unhealthier the nutritional value, the tastier the product seems to be and this is definitely the case with this curry but obviously it is something you want to have on ocassion as opposed to frequently that is if you value your arteries!
This can be cooked in the microwave, shortest cooking time 6 mins, longest cokking time 6mins 30 secs and we find it comes out perfectly fine but if you prefer to use the oven this takes 25-30 mins at 190 degrees from chilled, or 40-45 mins from frozen. You can also microwave from frozen: shortest cooking time 10 mins, longest cooking time 11 mins depending on the wattage of your microwave oven.
Allergery Advice: contains cashew nuts nad may contain traces of other nuts.
Caution should be taken in case any bones remain but I have never come across this.
The packaging is cardboard but I cannot see a recycle symbol on the packaging and I generally always take a star off for that!
All in all, I would highly recommend this curry - it is quick to cook when time is short and is very tasty indeed.
