      Very helpful

A very tasty meal from the Tesco Light Choices range.

Now, as a completely off topic aside, Tesco home delivery are appalling. Their substitutions have neither rhyme nor reason behind them and a case in point in this Light Choices Spaghetti and Meatballs ready meal which was actually substituted for a packet of the Swedish Meatballs that my granddaughter loves.

Rather than stand and argue with the driver I thought I might as well keep the meal as I am rather fond of meatballs and with this being a Light Choices meal at least I knew my diet would be OK with it.

I actually quite enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the meatballs themselves were. The spaghetti is not the freshest I've ever tasted, in fact it put me in mind of Heinz tinned spaghetti as the texture is very soft with absolutely no bite to it whatsoever. This wasn't actually as bad as it sounds though as the fairly rich tomato sauce made up for the lack of texture in the spaghetti.

There are a few small chunks of tomato in the sauce and these have a fresh and tasty flavour, personally I'd like to have had a more herby sauce as although basil is listed in the ingredients I thought it was struggling slightly to make itself known through the general tomato flavour.

The meatballs though are great in my opinion. They are oven baked which is what helps to keep the overall meal so much lower in fat than the standard Tesco meal of this type. They are from from British beef and have a really meaty flavour which helps me forget that this is, in fact, diet food. They are a little drier in texture than other meatballs I've eaten but this is a good thing really as they taste totally non-greasy and leave not even a smidgen on oil on my plate when I eat them.

Overall I think this is a fantastic ready meal for anyone, not just dieters. A full meal will 'cost' you 365 calories and 4.8g of saturated fat, and although the overall fat content is just over 10g it is the saturates that can cause health problems so this is the figure I tend to look at when choosing this kind of meal.
