Much nicer than the Weight Watchers meal

I buy ready meals to take to work as they are easy, quick and convinient.

As I am on a diet I normally buy the Weight Watchers things but they were becoming expensive so I decidede to try some of the Tesco Light Choice things.

I had this on friday for my lunch and was impressed by it as I did not care much for the Weight Watchers one.

The pack contains: 447 calories, 7.2g sugar, 8.8g fat.

The ingredients include: Pasta, Tomato, Beef, Tomato Puree, Onion, Cornflour, Red Wine, Beef Stock, Carrot, Celery, Balsamic Vinegar, Garlic Puree, Basil, Salt, Oregano and Black Pepper.

They can be kept refrigerated till the sell by date or can be frozen. They can be cooked from frozen as well.

They can be cooked in the oven or microwave.

Microwave from frozen- In a 750 watt microwave you cook on full power for 11 minutes and then alow to stand for a minute before eating.

Microwave- In a 750 watt microwave you will need to cook on full power for 5 ½ mins.

Oven from frozen- 35-40 minutes at 190°C

      Oven- 15-20 minutes at 190°C

This I find is much tastier than the Weight Watchers meal and I do not like Onions but I found that the onions in this were very small and I could not taste them much. The sauce is thick and creamy and the portion size is enough to fill in the gap at lunchtime.

The price of this approx £1.50 each but Tesco often have special offers on them

        Wouldn't buy this again

Tesco Light choices Spaghetti Bolognese is on offer at the moment, so I thought I would try it, for a meal to take to work. The packet tells me it is Fresh egg spaghetti in a Beef and tomato Bolognese sauce. It also mentions that it contains 30% less fat than standard Italian Tesco spaghetti Bolognese, that it has low sugars, and is a good source of protein. It also says it contains no artificial preservatives, flavours, colours or hydrogenated fat.

The product comes inside a cardboard sleeve, a microwaveable dish containing the food, with a film lid. To cook, you pierce the film lid and place in the microwave:

For between six and a half minutes and three and half minutes from fresh, or between 12 or 9 and half minutes from frozen. It can also be cooked in an oven at Gas mark 5 for 15-20 minutes from fresh or 35-40 minutes from frozen.

I had frozen this when I got it from the supermarket so my review is the product cooked in the microwave from frozen.

The smell coming from the microwave as it 'pinged' was quite appetising, herby and savoury, but when I took the film lid off the dish that had been in the microwave it didn't look too appetising. The sauce was all on the top, and the spaghetti underneath, so I stirred the two together before tasting. The spaghetti seemed very stodgy, clumping together a lot, and when I tasted a mouthful of spaghetti and sauce this was confirmed. It was very stodgy, and the sauce was surprisingly sweet. It was awful. I wonder who on earth tastes these meals and passes them as edible, never mind fit for sale. I have to say, it might taste better if it hasn't been frozen, but I wouldn't bet my life on that, it was so bad.

The spaghetti just tasted starchy and the sauce was just tasteless, other than a strange saccharin sweetness. There was nothing savoury about this at all, no taste of beef, or onion on even tomato, and not a hint of herbs. It was the strangest tasting Bolognese sauce I have ever tasted. This is not recommended, and I certainly won't be buying it again. Dreadful! I can't describe how bad it was. The only positive thing I can think of about it was that it was filling, but if I had a choice between being full with this and going hungry, in the future I would choose to go hungry.
