Tesco Pizzeria Margherita Pizza
Advantages: Affordable and tasty
Disadvantages: Nothing major
I love pizza!! It really is one of my favourite foods and has been every since I was a child and we used to take family holidays in Italy. Even when I was small I used to order a full sized pizza and manage to polish off the lot. They used to taste so amazing and the flavours were fantastic. I was always a little disappointed when we had pizza when we were back at home, they always tasted a little bland and the texture was all wrong.
If we ever eat out at and Italian restaurant, my husband is always faced with the whole pizza/pasta dilema. This is not a problem for me, I just head to the pizza section of the menu straight away. I am not a massive fan of supermarket pizzas, mainly because I am not a meat eater and the selection of vegetarian pizzas available is not all that great in my eyes. There seems to be loads of varieties available for meat eaters but often the only choice that is meat free is a margherita.
Having said that I do tend to buy the odd one now and again when I need to eat something quick and easy and this Tesco's margherita is one that I tend to buy the most. I believe it costs £2 but I think it is often on some kind of multi buy offer. I think this is quite a reasonable price and certainly much more affordable that the pizza express pizza's that you can also buy in the supermarket.
Now you simply pop these pizza's in the oven and be sure to keep a close eye on the cooking time. These thin stonebaked pizzas cook very quickly and leaving them in a couple of minutes too long can leave them dried out and over cooked. I have burned several pizzas in my time and there is nothing as frustrating than being faced with a charred dried out solid slab when you are looking forward to a moist and slightly crunchy pizza.
This pizza has a good combination of flavours, you get a real flavour of italian herbs mixed in with the cheese and tomato and the base has a fantastic crunchy texture. What I tend to do is pimp up my pizza a little, I add on my favourite toppings such as mushroom, pineapple, pepper and sweetcorn and this makes it a whole lot more interesting.
To sum up, while this is certainly not up to restaurant quality is is a perfectly acceptable supermarket effort
Summary: A good effort from Tescos
