“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Lasagne „
I bought this lasagne as that is what my darling daughter wanted for tea. I did not have time to make one from scratch, so I ran into my local Tesco Metro store. I was a little shocked at the prices of them until I saw the value range one for less than a pound.
The packaging is clear and precise with all the nutritional information on the front.
It was easily and conveniently cooked.
My daughter did not eat much of it, so I finished the rest. I found the taste to be rather watery and bland. I tried to rectify this with copious amounts of salt and pepper, but to no avail.
The meat content left a lot to be desired, there really could have been more.
Also where it had been cooked the pasta was hard around the edges, so that had to be left.
At this point I gave up and made some cheese on toast.
Everyone is a fan of lasagne right? You cant go wrong with it...or can you? I tried this Tesco Value Lasagne when I was doing my regular shop one day and really fancied some lasagne but didnt want to pay too much for it. You cant forget that the credit crunch is going on.
I found this for about 75p with 300g worth of lasagne. It is one of those ready meals where the instructions tell you to take pierce some holes in the the clear film and place in the microwave for about 7 minutes and then let it cool a little before microwaving for another 5 minutes. This all depends on the strength of your microwave of course.
I always like to take the whole of the film off for some reason. I believe that it cooks the lasagne better. It makes sense in my own head lol. What I found with this lasagne was that the middle would end up a little colder than the rest of the lasagne, so I would microwave it a little longer only to make sure that the middle is cooked but the edges are a little too hot and sometimes burn!
Upon tasting this dish, I found it quite OK. The elements that need improving are the flavours of this dish. The cheap price seems to lose some of that delicious cream creesy, meaty and tomato taste you usually get. However I found that was the only fault and a dash of salt seemed to fix the problem. Well... it was alot more edible after that anyways.
I found the texture of the pasta sheets to be a nice and smooth one. One that I could certainly eat. The meat in this lasagne was somewhat bland, but that ties in with the downfall of the flavours in this dish. I loved the sauce that this dish gave off and next time I will make a few chips to go with it so I can dip them in.
Overall for 75p you really can not complain about this product. Tesco really havent done too badly here and Iv tasted some Value products that really need shooting like their noodles.
I would definitely recommend this product to lasagne lovers, just make sure you have some salt at hand and maybe some grated cheese to add to the flavour.
I'm a big fan of lasagne. I think it's a really nice dish & very filling. The only problem I have is that I can never be bothered to deal with all the faf of actually making one. With this in mind I tend to always but ready made microwaveable lasagnes.
Tesco's lasagne is by far my favourite. It comes in a variety of sizes & prices & I tend to go for the 500g one at £1.29, although this is the 300g one for £0.75. I would say that size wise these are fine for one person to eat along side something like say chips. If you are after a meal for one & don't want anything with it, you might be better with the 500g option.
The lasagne is a traditional meat one. It has layers of pasta, which then have layers of chesse sauce or bolognese sauce (mince & tomato) in between the pasta.
The cheese sauce has a mild & subtle flavour. I like it, but I think it's so subtle to give it better mass appeal. If you like something stronger or more Italian, add some more cheese on top. I don't do this though as I thinks that it's fine as it is althoug it is a runny cheese sauce.
The Tomato & Mice bolognese sauce is very nice. It has a good flavour of tomato without being too sweet & is also very meaty & seems to have a good meat quantity.
The Pasta is soft, delicate & tastes good too. The only problem you might have is it may go crispy if you over do it in the microwave.
If you like to eat Lasagne & don't like lots of messing about to go with it, I would recommend this to you. It is a very nice tasting & good quality Lasagne for the price that you pay. A very good product & one that tends to end up in my basket regularly.
I just arrived home and felt so hungry. I have'nt had the time to cook because in just an hour I have to pick up the kids. Lucky I have a stock of tesco value lasagne. The very quick solution to fill up my tummy in just few minutes.
Layers of fresh egg pasta with a minced beef and tomato sauce topped with bechamel sauce and mature cheddar cheese.
It's really tasty considering that It's a meal that can be cooked in a microwave. The sauce was creamy and cheesy enough, the pasta was well cooked. Always make sure you won't overcooked it because it will leave a hard inedible pieces that's not very nice to eat.

The outer cardboard sleeve has Tesco Value logo on the top left and a picture of a lasagne with a fork. The actual lasagne is packed in a plastic container with a plastic film over the top. It's suitable for home freezing.
There are some days I feel idle but still need to prepare a meal. This pack is my best meal to offer in that particular situation and It actually satisfy everyone on the table. Adding to this is the price which is cheaper than other supermarket brand who sell them for £1 or more. These are also available in larger pack which is perfect for the whole family, but do remember that this is not the right meal if your on a diet because each small pack contains 340kcal, 17% of your daily allowance. As for me, It's certainly making a name for itself. A perfect quick meal in a very fair price!
Tesco Value Lasagne
This ready meal is found in the chilled ready meal isle costing 75p and it is suitable for home freezing.
Your 75p will buy you a 300g package of layers of fresh egg pasta with a minced beef and tomato sauce topped with bechamel sauce and mature cheddar cheese.
When you slide the cardboard package off you see lots of creamy cheese topping. I pricked the film lid several times and popped
it in my 850watt microwave for 4 minutes, the box does say 4 1/2 minutes but I find my microwave to be quite powerful. When I took it out of the microwave I could tell by the smell that it was a lasange and the smell was quite appetising.
The creamy cheese topping was definitely creamy but not very cheesy at all, obviously didn't use much of their "mature cheddar cheese". The mince was OK, very little substance to it, that said I was expecting to find gristle bits of mince and was pleasantly surprised that there weren't any. I had expected the pasta layers to be a bit tough and chewy, especially around the edge of the packet, but I couldn't fault the pasta sheets, they were perfectly cooked throughout. What did let this meal down was the flavour, it was very, very bland not appearing to have any seasoning of any kind.
If your hungry and need to eat quick regardless of taste, then this is a bargain, it would be perfect if you have a heavy cold and your taste buds were out of sorts. I like to taste the cheese in the lasagne sauce as well as the tomato sauce, this meal lacked in both of those categories unfortunately. It wasn't very filling on it's own it would need to be served with vegetables or chips, salad etc to make it a filling meal.
There is one happy customer in the house though, and that's my kitten, she licked the plate very clean!
2/5 Great if you have no sense of taste, or if you are a cat
