Advantages: Value for money, nice tasting meatballs
Disadvantages: Tomato sauce doesn't taste of much.
I bought these meatballs a while back as a step towards reducing my food expences. Cause the first big thumbs up is that they are cheaper than chips! At £0.38 pr tin, I thought to myself that they would be terrible! But the temptation to save a few pennies got to me and I went ahead.
Now, I know a lot of people have commented on the fact that these meat balls are quite hard or "compact" rather. In my books that's not a bad thing! I'd rather have these than the ones that fall apart if you stir the sauce or get sliced in half by a bit of al dente spaghetti. But that's just down to taste really. Bringing me on to the taste of the meatballs.
Being brought up on authentic swedish meatballs (thank you IKEA), I was actually pleasantly surprised! The meatballs themselves are quite tasty and there are a lot of them in that little tin. The sauce, however, leaves a bit to be desired. It's bland, boring and gets a bit sickening after a few spoonfulls. What I tend to do (if I can be bothered), is to get rid of the tomato sauce and just heat them up in a pasta sauce of my choice. If I'm feeling a bit lazy, hungry and not bothered about taste (one of those days), I might go crazy and have the tin just microwaved and have a bit of the tomato sauce it comes in. Bottom line; This product is absolutely fine and actually brilliant for the price! One of the better Value products in my book.
Summary: Value for money, cheap and tasteful alternative to mince in pasta.
