Advantages: Tastes great, convenient
Disadvantages: None really
I have never been much of an expert in the kitchen when it comes to cooking, but at the same time I do like to serve my family with tasty, hearty food at teatime. I have learned that sometimes you have to cheat in order to achieve this and one of my 'cheats' is using microwaveable rice. I have tried a couple of different varieties on shelves, and the best I have found so far is the Uncle Bens variety.
~The Product~
Uncle Bens Express Rice is available in a few different varieties, but I generally just stick to the long grain white rice version. The instructions of use couldn't be simpler. You just have to snip the corner off the packet, leaving a vent of around 2cm in the corner of the pack. You then place in the microwave and heat up for 2 minutes at 700w. Once finished it is piping hot and ready to serve. One word of caution is to take the packet out the microwave with gloves, as it does get rather hot whilst being cooked!
The rice is really fluffy when served, just as it should be. Its light and tasty. It has a really soft texture to it too. For me, it really doesn't taste any different to if you boiled your rice in a pan.
~Price/Packaging~
A pack of this rice will set you back at present £1.69 from most supermarkets. Sometimes you can find packs on offer. At present there is an offer on at Tescos in which you can get 3 packs for £3.75.
The packaging is orange and has the blue Uncle Bens logo scrawled across the top with a picture of a bowl of rice underneath.

~Summary~
I am really impressed with this rice. It couldn't be simper to prepare. Its great for people with very little time or if you are not too handy in the kitchen, like myself. The rice tastes great and has a really nice fluffy texture to it, just as it should do.
I would recommend this instant rice to anybody.
Summary: A handy product to keep in your cupboards
