Removal Services in general
by M. Blagrove
I had the move from hell last year in using the services of Fox & Sons based in Cwmbran South Wales.
Having obtained the usual variety of quotes and having three salesmen around to cost the job we settled on Fox & Sons, who were not incidentally the cheapest.
Packing service? Forget it - many boxes were loaded ... without protective packaging and a valuable painting had a large portable television placed on top of it...
On a wet removal day valuable antique furniture was placed out in the rain before being loaded onto the van (and going into storage for 3 months...) - we were promised that these items would ALL be wrapped prior to removal.
The delivery of our goods 3 months later and 140 miles away was also a farce. Despite being given precise measurements of the access width to the new house a large van and trailer was used, the van couldn't get close access to our house so returned to its depot. The crew unloaded the 7 crates containing our goods and crammed them into a standard size furniture van and a box van for delivery the next day.
Several valuable items of furniture were badly damaged (more broken legs than a football team sees in a year...) or scratched - it was heartbreaking. We were covered by insurance and the claim covered a total of 25 items, including missing jewellery...
Also, all of the clothing put into storage smelled of damp and mould (a small statue had mould growing on it that had to be removed by a specialist company) - hardly a dry or appropriate storage facility then (the company had the cheek to draw our attention to the fact that the summer had been particularly wet....!).
It was 4 months after the move that we got all our furniture back from being repaired and emptied the last packing case!
Following our complaint Fox & Sons did refund some of our fees BUT the simple answer is that they should have returned our goods in the same condition that they were in when they removed them from our previous house.
Please, for your own peace of mind, if you are moving to/from South Wales use anybody but Fox & Sons based in Cwmbran.... Read the complete review |

Removal Services in general

I paid Simpsons to ship goods as part of a consolidated container on the 29th of September 2012 to the US East Coast. At the time of booking, I was assured that while they could not give me definite delivery times, it was normally between 8 - 10 weeks with a maximum of 12 weeks. On that basis I booked with them.
I finally ... received my goods about 24 weeks after I gave it to them - on March 17 2013. Their customer service is very poor - when I asked when I would get my goods, their only response was that in their terms and conditions, they do not guarantee delivery. They then asked me to pay an additional £1,200 if I wanted my goods delivered on time. Alternatively, they told me to come to their warehouse and take my goods and that they would then charge me for storage!!!!
Without doubt, the worst consumer experience of my life. Read the complete review |

Persimmon Homes
by Chris
First up, this review relates to the Milliners Green development in Staffordshire.
We bought our first Charles Church home on this development 4 years ago and we have been delighted with it. As with all new houses (they are built by humans, not machines) there were a few snags of which the worst was a faulty downstairs WC and ... leaky guttering but these were rectified by Charles Church without question and relatively promptly too. The lesser snags were also rectified in the same manner. We have had no further issues with this house at all (a 3-bed mid-terrace).
We have now bought another brand new Charles Church home on the same development, this time a 4-bed detached due to our family expanding! As yet, we have not moved in - we have exchanged contracts and the house should be ready by early May 2013. We moved using the Charles Church part-exchange offer and it is important to note that CC have 2 DIFFERENT part-exchange schemes. Firstly, there is 'Part Exchange' whereby CC market your old house on your behalf and agree a price with you and the buyer, and subsequently agree a price with you for the new house. Secondly, there is 'Part Exchange Plus' whereby CC buy your old house from you for an agreed fee (based on 2 market valuations) and agree a price with you for the new one. This effectively makes selling your old house the responsibility and problem of CC as you have sold it to them.
We took up 'Part Exchange Plus' and actually got a fair market price for our old home, aswell as carpets in our new home for free. The process was very easy and CC were very clear all the way through about who needed to do what etc. This may be down to an excellent sales rep on-site.
We can't wait to move in to our new house on Milliners Green and my only advice to potential buyers would be 'be realistic' - you WILL have snags of varying degrees in your new home because it is just that, new! Read the complete review |
