Advantages: Still some good ones!

Disadvantages: Some bad ones too!

'Pickfords Removals was established in the 17th century and has been moving homes for generations.

By popular belief within the company, the Pickfords family of Adlington, South of Manchester, and later of nearby Poynton, first entered the wagon trade in the 17th century.

There is a tantalising mention of a Will Pickford, a carrier, working in the area in the 1630s, although there is no solid link to date that connects the present firm and Mr Will Pickford. ' http://www.pickfords.co.uk

Now, I have quoted this first paragraph from their website, which I have detailed and it is interesting reading, should you want to go into the site!

I should write my own knowledge of Pickfords, after reading all the comments here about it!

It is saddening to hear the negative ops about Pickfords. Nowadays Pickfords are a Company who is really no longer the real original 'Pickfords'!

To set things straight firstly.....Allied Pickfords is the international division of Pickfords Removals.
Today, Allied Pickfords has grown to be the largest dedicated home moving organisation in the world.

Today Allied Pickfords and the Allied Network is part of SIRVA, the largest moving and relocation services company in the world.

On a personal note, the Pickfords UK branches, have closed down so many branches of their huge network in the UK, and wherever you phone, whatever area code. it will be put through to their nearest remaining depot. Over the last few years it is sad to see a once great UK Removal firm go downhill!

Can I just say, in their defence, that their training was excellent, to the point that other Removal firms who were ex Pickfords employees, have even quoted in their ads that 'we were trained by Pickfords'!

It is unfortunate that individual staff from Pickfords have let the side down, by bad manners, bad practice etc.....but you can be assured that Pickfords in general do not tolerate bad customer service. Yes, obviously, they hate damages, they hate paying out for bad service, and that is why they constantly have training courses!

Unfortunately in this day, the down side of many a removal firm is that they do not pay great money, and therefore attract people who, perhaps couldn't care less, but for the many of the Removal men left who have been with Pickfords for many years, they are dedicated to their trade! I am sorry to say, it is pot luck as to who you will get to make your move!

Summary: There are still good Pickfords removals!

I am afraid, because there is a high turnover of staff in these companies, they are not cleared, plus alot of the Removal firms use Agency staff now, as overall it is cheaper for them to use, so I have to assume that the Agency checks them out to a certain degree, but my advice would be to anyone moving house, is to enquire if they do use Agency staff, and if so, ask that they are not on your particular job!
There are some good Agency workers, but the majority of them are 'Jack of all Trades'........and not trained in one particular aspect!

It always worries me as to who the employees of removal firms are. Are they secuirty cleared for example?

Yep! It is very traumatic! I just tried to see it from another point of view! Yes, I did work for them for some years, so I know the problems! ooooopsss.....shouldn't have gave that away!
