Advantages: none for me
Disadvantages: barratts exist
Entered sales office with parents, as i was first time buyer. chose house off plan, were about is it? sales rep (who won top award)if you look straight out across the road from my window its right there (not true)its now in the place i pointed out to her i did not want to be.
Whats the difference in this row and the other and the garden size? sales rep, none, untrue, identical homes opposite gardens are one metre longer, i asked about this, sales rep oh yours is different, but told they were the same size. Even then we had to have the fence moved over to the correct boundary. (Barratts worker, down spout fitted mmm we have to fit a fence shall i put an elbow in ? no i will take 6 inches of this house)
4hours choosing kitchen tiles shown them by sales rep and taken to show house, result no tiles. snag list is way to long to go into.
House with 2 parking spaces,(which they advertised) untrue (none provided) even though they told mortgage people the same, Barrats had to change the contract to say 1 parking space, but even that will be taken off us at a later date, result no parking spaces provided.
Told it was a cul de sac, as i had brought up the walk way which was further up,sales rep, oh we are not allowed to move rights of way, untrue
Home now not in a cul de sac, but has a walk way through, seems they had built some homes with no planning permission, result being people who had already bought in my part end up with the walk way through and no cul de sac, but cul de sacs built now were walkway used to be for last 30 yrs.
And now the homes with no planning permission now staying (but not selling due to walk way leading up to the front window) , but we are waitng to see if the homes that are now affected by the walk way will be pulled down ,(no planning permission for them either). But suppose they have now applied even though homes have already been built, and others too.
Told exchange would be later as NHBC would not give a certificate untill the detached homes where the new walk way was going were not yet finished and scaffolding was in the way and we could not get to rear of home, next day scaffold removed NHBC given (strange wonder if the detached homes with no planning permission will get one)or was it just coincidence all work stopped on the detached house certificate given and then work restarted.
Motgage started days earlier because sales rep had done the exchange on the day it should have gone through ie before the NHBC certificate problem, yet i had not handed money over or insured the house (house became ours without her telling us).
Home now has just waste land behind even though this was part of phase one they are now on phase two, have not got a clue if the other houses shown on the map behind me have got planning permission or will ever be built
Feel completly ripped off would never go near barratts homes again, and fed up people knocking on my door asking whats happening at the end of my supposedly cul de sac when they have come to view the 5 homes that are not selling, to which i reply , they are building a walk way through not a cul de sac like the others, Oh they say, they never told me that in the sales office, yeah me too i reply.
Advice keep away, dont trust or believe a word they tell you.
Summary: Feel as a first time buyer they took advantage with all the un truths

- 20/09/05 I am sure there is a LOT of useful info in your experience, however, the telegraphic style you related it in with almost no verbs made it extremely hard for me to get any information out of it, in fact I struggled to read the whole text and it was not very long. |
