Advantages: Nice location

Disadvantages: Shoddy build

I moved into a brand new Barratt home 2 and a half years ago. The house is a good sized 4 bedroomed detatched. It was also an ex show home. Beautifully decorated and well worth the money.
As soon as we moved in the kitchen flooded, we found out this was the incorret plumbing in of the washing machine that came with the house. My 2 neighbours also had the same problem. The house 2 down had to have thew whole downstairs carpets replaced. These thing happen though and it was fixed.
Over the next 6 months various small things went wrong which they repaired very quickly. then the boiler started to bang. They sent the guy out from potterton and he replaced the heat exchanger. This worked for about 2 ,months and then it kicked off again. This time another man came around and said "All boilers make some noise", this was unacceptable to me as the noise is far too excessive as to what I accept as passable. On his 3rd visit the man put some boiler noise reducer fluid in the system. Thankfully this worked for 1 year. Now we are up to date, the noise is as bad as ever and is driving me completely insane. When I contacted Barratts, they were not interested as it was out of their 2 years from moving in rules even though the problem has been on going since we moved in. When we called potterton who made the boiler, they said the same and wanted £170 +VAT just to come out and look at it.
Needless to say I was not impressed, so I called a local man from the paper. So far I have paid out over £500 and still it's not fixed, now I am getting really mad.
On looking above the boiler under the floorboards one of the pipes has actually knocked it's way through the floor and is visible under the carpet.
This was clearly an install problem and nobody is interested because it's over 2 years.

My house is going up for sale this week and I would not recommend Barratts to anyone as the overall aftersales finishes at 2 years regardless of work o
utstanding. When you buy a new house you do not expect these kind of problems and you certainly shouldn't be financilly responsible for the repair work to shoddy installations.

I will never buy another Barratt and would reccomend to you all to take heed of this message, and CHECK THE PLUMBING AND HEATING SYSTEMS THOUROUGHLY.

Hopefully the 7th person who is comming round on Friday will fix it. Somehow I dont think he will.

Merry Christmas

This kind of thing happens all too often, I'm afraid, and not just with Barratts. The companies really don't seem to care. I do hope everything works out okay for you in the end.
