I too have experienced terrible service from Barratt Southampton, enclosed are a few pointers that I brought along to a meeting with the MD of Barratt southampton on the 20th Aug 04...to let him know how disapointed my wife and I are about buying a Barratt home.....something we will never do again!! living next to the show rooms in Whiteley Fareham Hants means that I can advise perspective home buyers not to do it.... if they know whats good for them.

Points for meeting

1. Want you to offer to buy back my house as I?m worried that house will fall apart in a couple of year?s time. Due to shoddy workmanship, general lack of care and emphasis on rushing completion to make profit!

2. House was never ready for final inspection, pressured to move in anyway.

3. Have been treated like liars by your staff at times with sarcasm and patronised especially by senior site staff.

4. Had no telephone for 7 weeks to due to Barratts not laying under road ducting.

5. Had to query garden fencing as was told it would be 6? and in reality was picket fence. Called liars by sales staff, Barratts change plans to suit the situation.

6. Had extensive remedial work on house from day one, some 9 months later still not satisfactory. Ranging from leaking gas boiler (this took 2 months to rectify), leaking water tank which caused damp to come thru downstairs, badly finished paint work, all skirting board and door s etc all finished of with rubber sealant!! Plaster tape coming thru more or less every plaster board put up, nail rivets coming thru, wrong tiles laid in shower room, shower base dropping 3? bath dropping 3?, tiling not finished in bathroom, mirror contractor refusing to lay a mirror in shower room because in his words the walls were so far out, he would not be able to put a mirror in! tiles re-laid in shower, contaminated grout in tiles, chipped exterior bricks, badly designed roof of next doors garage causing water to stre
am down our outer wall, toilets not secured, outside gas boiler flume not finished off electrical sockets not finished,??.oh and yes ?your technical director passed my house as acceptable? oven replaced once, chipped kitchen doors. I have checked your show rooms and funny old thing all the finishing off is as I expected for a brand new house no lines at all!

7. Lulled in to a false sense of security wrt wooden fencing around parking area. This was later ripped down and not replaced until some 3 months later. After constant complaining from me. It was removed to allow other houses situated opposite access.(work contractors used continuously for access to site!)

8. Was told that I had to have a Barratts flag outside my house as Barratts give us some free plants at the front.

9. Have had to take so many days off work for your ?fixers? to come in to rectify defects, and on most occasions they didn?t even turn up.

10. Have been treated with contempt by some members of your senior sales/site staff when trying to follow up job requests. Being informed that work now not covered by Barratts anymore.

11. Was keep waiting all day after taking a day off work when back lawn was laid which didn?t get done that day and was told by a senior site manager that as we are doing your shrinkage for free I?m sure you wont mind waiting in tomorrow morning as well to get the lawn laid!!!

12. Still waiting for electrical health and safety documentation!

13. Every concern that I have expressed to your staff has dragged on in some cases by months and is so frustrating.

14. Still waiting for 4 monthly after sales survey?.was told by sales office that this was only given to a %....obviously given to the ones that don?t complain! I am by far not the only one that is not happy with the quality of work on their properties; I have spoken to neighbours and other residents.

15. Really would like to have a house like all
your advertising near show rooms ?you?ll love that Barratt brand new feeling? and how you claim to have won 5 top regional awards for quality workmanship totally mystifies me!

16. Why is it we have to wait for our private parking areas to be finished of when Bovis your sister Co. finish them off before you move in to a high brick work standard and top layer of tarmac with house No.s painted??

17. In summary I feel that once you got my money that was it, you rather hoped that I would shut up and go away, as if after sales doesn?t matter.
