Advantages: Some are good

Disadvantages: Seem to only want to flog you a mortgage

I guess Estate Agents are one of those trades that few people have a good word for and in many cases they deserve thei poor reputation. Certainly there are not many people who will be feeling sorry for them in the current climate which has seen a 95% reduction in the number of house purchases and hence a drop in their incomes.

I have had a mixed experience with estate agents, when we sold our first house the agent from Dixons was excellent and we reallt felt like we were getting a personal service in the sale of our house, they kept us advised of everything they were doing, took care of any viewings that were arranged giving us plenty of notice and when a purchaser was found did a good job of advising us through the whole process alongside our solicitor.

Our experiences as a buyer were less positive with inappropriate property details being sent to us and some very misleading discriptions of properties which were a waste of time us visiting. Also when we did make an offer we got the feeling that we were being left out in favour of another buyer because we did not want to take their mortgage advice and the other buyer did. This left me with a very cynical view of estate agents on the whole.
