Advantages: There are some caring and professional ones out there
Disadvantages: Unfortunatley there are some bad
I am an Estate Agent and I think we get such a hard time I had to give my opinion of things.
I have been an Estate Agent for the past 5 years and although in that time I have encounted alot of unprofessional and rude Agents but I have also met alot of polite caring agents.
The Estate Agents I work for is Keith Pattinson and we are based in the North East. We are comission based staff so we only get paid when we sell the house so it is in everyone's best interests to get them sold as soon as possible. Unlike alot of other agents who do not get paid on comission and they are happy to get a new property on the market and then just leave it on the wall hoping that someday someone will walk in off the street wanting to buy it.
We are very proactive in the selling process. From the minute we list a property for sale we contact people on our mailing list. We do this by phone and not just by putting a piece of paper in the post which I am aware alot of agents do.
When someone pays an interest in a property and we try and get them to speak to our mortgage advisor it is because we want to make sure that they can get the mortgage and that the sale is secure. We are working for the seller and not the buyer and we try and get them the best possible price and try to make sure we limit the risk of the sale falling through.
We will follow the sale from start to finish and I personally send good luck cards to the buyers once the sale has completed. I believe this to be a nice thought and I myself would be impressed by that.
There are also some people who work in the company who are very money orientated and all they want is the comission. I am not going to say that the company is perfect because noone is perfect and everyone makes mistakes but that is like everywhere. You go into any shop and there will be good staff and bad staff but that is life.
You dont start accusing Tesco staff of being imoral just because you have one bad experience so I think people should give Estate Agents a break.
I personally love my job and it gives me great satisfaction when I make a client happy.
Of course I have made mistakes in my job in the past but please tell me who hasn't? I have rang people in the past asking them if they are interested in a house when there is a note on the file saying they are not looking in that percific area. I have also done that in the past though and I have ended up selling the house to that person as they did say they were not looking in that area but because it was a nice house for a good price they went to look at it.
Selling and buying a house is a very important and stressfull time in your life and I understand that you need guiding through it and you need someone to be supportive but if you do get a bad experience with a certain member of staff then why not pick up the phone and ring another member of staff or ask to speak to the manager, explain your concerns with them and ask for someone else to deal with it. There is no harm in asking.
Dont tar them all with the same brush
Summary: All agents should not be tarred with the same brush
