Disadvantages: waste your time

I started looking for a property to buy through Foxtons. I chose them as they had a good website. From the moment I met them things went downhill.

1) I made the mistake of meeting with Alexander Hall (their finance guys). They immediately told the agent what I could afford if I borrowed to the hilt.

2) The agent showed me properties I could afford if I borrowed to the hilt rather than properties in the price range I specified.

3) As all the properties I was shown were overvalued and outside the budget I gave them the whole process was a massive waste of my time.

They paid no attention to what I wanted and the whole process was blatantly designed to extract as much money from me as possible.

I shudder to think how may people bought their bullsh*t and now find themselves overstretched with an overvalued property.

Summary: blatantly out to rip you off
