I BOUGHT A WIMPEY HOME IN SEPT 2005, WITH GREAT PROMISES AND SOME SERIOUS GREAT THINGS TO COME.... THEY ALL TURNED OUT TO BE UNTRUE. WE WAS PROMISED A SUPERB AND SUPERIOR FINISH BY OUR SALES AGENT. SHE TURNED OUT TO BE PROMISING ANYTHING UNDER THE SUN TO GET US TO SIGN UP AND BUY AN APARTMENT. SHE DESERVES A OSCAR FOR HER PERFORMANCE, A YOUNG AFFLUENT AREA WITH LOTS TO OFFER, WHAT SHE MEANT IS A GUY WITH A BIT OF MONEY WHO BOUGHT 5 PROPERTIES AND LET THEM TO TEEN MUMS. SHE REALLY WOULD HAVE PROMISED US A ROOF TERRACE AND STAIRCASE TO THE MOON TO GET US TO SIGN ON THAT DOTTED LINE.

WE USED WIMPEYS SOLICITORS AS WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE VERY GOOD AND VERY CHEAP, CHEAP THEY WERE BUT GOD THEY WERNT. THEY DIDNT CONTACT US FOR AGES UNTILL ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE WE WERE DUE TO COMPLETE SAYING THEY NEED THE FULL SUM ON MONEY PAID WITHIN 4 DAYS, THAT DIDNT LEAVE US TIME FOR A CHEQUE TO CLEAR SO THEY REALLY STUFFED US UP TOO! WE WERE VERY PUT OUT BY THIS BUT WE HAD A BRAND NEW BEAUTIFUL HOME TO LOOK FORWARD TO DIDNT WE....

ABOUT 2 WEEKS BEFORE EXCHANGE WE WERE MEANT TO BE MET BY THE SITE MANAGER BUT HE DIDNT TURN UP SO WE HAD TO MEET HIS SIDE KICK, AND I DO MEAN SIDEKICK. MR "i will also promise you the world then leave you high and dry" HE IN ALL FAIRNESS WAS VERY HELPFUL, USELESS BUT VERY HELPFUL. HE TOOK US ROUND AND WE DREW UP A SNAGGING LIST, THERE WAS LOTS OF PAINTING FAULTS AND PLASTER FAULTS. DOWN TO JUST SHEER LAZYNESS. THINGS LIKE NOT BOTHERING TO SAND DOWN THE BOXING ROUND THE TOILET SO JUST PAINTING OVER THE ROUGH EDGES, JUST GENERAL BAD JOBS ALL ROUND.

ABOUT 20TH DECEMBER WE ARE TOLD THE APPARTMENT IS READY AND WE WILL EXCHANGE ON 23RD DEC AT 3PM.

WHEN WE COME TO EXCHANGE THE DOSH AND THE KEYS THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS EVE, A DAY WHICH SHE HAD ARRANGED THERE WAS NOBODY THERE TO MEET US OTHER THAN THE SALES WOMAN WHO ASKED US TO SIGN TO SAY EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT AND THE WORK WHICH HAD BEEN PULLED UP ON THE SNAGGING LIST HAD BEEN COMPLETED, NOT UNFAIR YOUR THINKING BUT SHE WAS REFUSING TO LEAVE THE SALES OFFICE TO SHOW US ROUND OUR HOME AND AS THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE THERE TO HELP US WE HAD TO SIGN AND THEN GO AND LOOK FOR OURSELVES. WE DIDNT SIGN OF COURSE. WE REFUSED TO SIGN AND TOOK THE KEYS AND WOULD SIGN ON A LATER DATE.

I AM SO SO SO SO GLAD WE DIDNT SIGN: AS NONE, THATS RIGHT, NONE OF THE SNAGGING LIST ITEMS HAD BEEN CORRECTED. IN FACT HAD NOT EVEN BEEN ATTEMPTED.

I WISH I COULD SHOW PHOTOS ON THIS WEBSITE BECAUSE YOU WOULD BE APPAULED. IF I SAY OUR MINOR PROBLEMS WERE A BOILER LEEK AND BEING ABLE TO PULL THE SAFETY CHAIN OFF THE FRONT DOOR WITH MY LITTLE FINGER, AND I DO MEAN MY LITTLE FINGER, ALONG WITH A BIG CRACK IN THE BATHROOM WASHBASIN ID BE IGNORING ABOUT 30 OTHER MORE SERIOUS ONES.

WE WERE REALLY NOT HAPPY SO WE HAD A GOOD CLEAN UP AND ENJOYED OUR CHRISTMAS BUT ALWAYS HAVING THE FLATS PROBS AT THE BACK OF OUR MIND. WE WERE REALLY EXCITED TO OWN THE FLAT BUT IT WAS ALSO SADENED BY THE FACT WE HAD BEEN FOR A BETTER WORD "TUCKED UP" BY THIS COMPANY.

THE SUPERIOR FINISH WE WERE PROMISED WE DIDNT GET IN FACT I WOULD HAVE SAID SUBSTANDARD FINISH WOULD HAVE BEEN AN UNDER ESTAMATE.

AFTER CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR WE CONTACTED WIMPEY AND THAY DID ARRANGE A PAINTER WHO UNDERSTOOD ABOUT 1 WORD IN 20 THAT I SAID, VERY NICE BUT NO COMMUNICATIONS AVAILABLE TO COME IN AND DO SOME TOUCH UPS. I MEAN THE WHOLE PLACE NEEDED RE DECORATION AND IT WAS ONLY 2 WEEKS OLD.

THE MANAGEMENT WERE CALLED UP AND WE BOTH COMPLAINED ABOUT THE STATE OF WHAT WE HAD BOUGHT COMPARED TO WHAT WE'D BEEN PROMISED.

THEY CAME UP FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS AND "PUT THINGS RIGHT" MORE LIKE "BOTCHED THEM A BIT MORE".

I BY CHANCE CALLED THE MAANGING DIRECTOR AND GOT STRAIGHT THROUGHT TO HIM AND COULDNT BELIEVE MY LUCK, I INVITED HIM TO OUR FLAT TO SEE IF HE WOULD HAVE ALL THESE FAULTS IN HIS BRAND NEW HOME AND HE ACCEPTED MY OFFER AD SAID HE'D BE INTOUCH SHORTLY. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE COULD NEVER GET THROUGHT TO HIM AGAIN. WE RECIEVED A LETTER AFTER ABOUT 20 CALLS OVER 2 WEEKS SAYING HIS CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER WOULD BE INTOUCH.

WE RECIEVED A LETTER FROM THE CUSTOMER SERVICES MANAGER ARRANGING A DATE TO COME AND SEE US AND THOUGHT WERE FINALLY GETTING SOMEWHERE. ABOUT 10:30PM THE NIGHT BEFORE SHE WAS DUE SHE CALLED TO SAY SHE CANT MAKE IT AND WE WOULD HAVE TO REARRANGE. I SWIFTLY TOLD HER THAT I HAD HAD TO TAKE YET ANOTHER DAY OFF WORK AND SHE WOULD MAKE THAT MEETING WITHOUT FAIL. SHE ARRIVED AND WAS IMMEDIATLY ON THE DEFENSIVE ONE OF HER REACTIONS TO THE PAINT BEING UNEVEN AND GLOSS MIXED IN WITH THE MATT CEILING WAS AND I QUOTE "TURN THE LIGHT OFF!" I WAS STANDING WITH MY DAD WHO IS A BUILDER, WE BOTH COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT WE WERE HEARING. WE WERE DISCUSTED. TO HAVE SPENT £175,000 ON A PROPERTY ANS TO HEAR THAT IS HEARTBREAKING.

SHE BEGRUDGEINGLY OFFERED TO SEND UP "HER" TEAM OF PAINTERS AND DO A GOOD JOB, BUT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE 4 OCCASION AND WE WERE FED UP AND COULDNT HAVE ANY MORE STRESS OR TIME OFF WORK. SHE AND THE SITE MANAGER ADMITTED THAT IT WAS NOT UP TO THEIR NORMAL STANDARD OF WORKAMNSHIP BUT COULDNT HELP US ANY FURTHER. TOGETHER WITH EACH TIME A WORKMAN CAME UP THE JOB GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OR GIVE US £250 IN COMPENSATION TO PUT IT RIGHT. NOW YOU CANT GET A PAINTER, PLASTERER AND CARPENTER OUT FOR £250 CAN YOU. THE PHONE CALLS TO GET HOLD OF WIMPEY MANAGERS NO DOUBT CAME TO £100 ALONE NOT TO MENSION THE DAYS OFF WORK UNPAID ETC. SHE LEFT UNABLE TO SATISFY OR CLEAR UP OUR PROBLEMS.

WE THEN CONTACTED THE PRODUCTION MANAGER WHO WAS EVEN MORE USELESS THAN THE PREVIOUS CUSTOMER SERVICES MANAGER. AND I MEAN DAMP HE JUST DIDNT CARE AT ALL. HE SAID HE WAS WITHDRAWING THE £250 AND WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FUTHER. WELL THIS WAS THE FINAL BLOW.

WE WROTE TO THIS GUY A WEEK LATER AND DEMENDED THE THINGS WERE PUT RIGHT AND THE £250 TO BE PAID.

WIMPEY DID PAY THE MONEY AND EVENTUALLY GET THE WORKMEN UP TO SORT OF CORRECT THE FEW PROBLEMS THEY COULD BUT WE WOULD NEVER BUY A PROPERTY FROM THEM AGAIN AND WILL CONTINUE TO TELL POSSIBLE BUYERS OF ALL THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE HAD AND STRONGLY DISSUADE ANY MORE "VICTIMS" TO BUY A NEW WIMPEY PROPERTY.

WE HAVE NOW REDECORATED OUR HOME AND ARE VERY VERY HAPPY HERE. NO THANKS TO A COMPANY THAT PROMISED SO SO MANY THINGS YET DELIVERED NONE AND HAPPILY SUPPLIED SHOCKING RESULTS.

SO IM BRIEF IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SHODDY FINISH AND APAULING CUSTOMER SERVICE THERE ARE THE GUYS TO GO WITH.

Excellent Review - sorry you had to put up with so many problems. As another GW home owner I can really empathise and sympathise with you - my shower fell off the tiled wall because they'd fitted the controls over the bevelled tiles and used screws that were too short! You'd think they'd have had the common sense to put it higher or lower than the bevel!

A very comprehensive account of what sounds like a dreadful experience. I did find the capitals made this a little difficult to read however.x

Luckily, you were sensible, but you were not actually forced to sign that day. You did look to see if the snagging list had been completed, and presumably decided not to sign until it was. There was no conclusion to your review. It would have been so much more helpful to write it when a conclusion had been reached. What Collingwood means about shouting is capital letters which are not usually used for reviews. Hope this helps. Rachel X
