I purchased my very first home in December 2006 from George Wimpey. Being a first time buyer I didn't know what to expect thus was taken in by George Wimpey's sales advisors. I only saw my house once and that was a day before i was due to complete, the sales girl took me round the house and she in fact pointed out some faults with the house. When i started inspecting the house her list of five faults turned into a two page essay. I submitted this to George Wimpey site office and was told that they would be dealt with (it took four months and most of my holiday allowance from work before they were completed and that was after many telephone calls. Most of the jobs i will just do myself then they are done properly!). When i moved in with my daughter on Christmas Eve the house wasn't clean and the alarm which i had paid for i couldn't use because there was no instruction manual, also i couldn't fathom out the central heating system because they had neglected to give me a copy of that instruction manual too! Over the course of the Christmas period i noticed more and more faults with the property including my guttering not being properly fixed to the side of the house, the door chain coming off in my hand, doors not closing, big gouges in the walls (by the way George Wimpeys latest money saving trick is to tape and fill the walls and to do away with plastering altogether!!), and the radiators weren't fixed to the walls properly and the best was yet to come. On New Years Eve our toilets started to back fill with waste and we couldn't use any of them i rang the customer helpline and was told someone would come out within 6 hours. I waited up until 2 in the morning and no one turned up. New Years Day i rang the customer services again and was told someone would be out straight away, a lovely man turned up who laughed at my house and said it was the shoddiest work he had ever seen and the drains were blocked with site rubble, and the fall on my waste pipes wasn't right. This was reported to the site office when they returned from the Xmas break and the site manager informed me that they were fine. I also upgraded my carpets and underlay. I thought they felt a bit thin so i lifted one of the carpets to discover they had installed the cheap underlay and charged me for the upgrade, this is when i lost my temper and started to shout and write letters. However to sum up i would never buy another George Wimpey house as the finish is disgusting, they can't be trusted with regards to upgrades and leave you high and dry as soon as they have your money. I am still getting telephone calls however from the sales office for me to fill in my customer satisfaction survey and i am reminded that they like to get ticks in the excellent box!! Flaming cheek of it
