They valued the house at a reasonable (not over the top price) and i liked their honesty. To be honest we didnt get a massive amount of interest but the house did sell eventually after reducing the price. Halifax dealt with the sale well. Fees were also pretty reasonable and on par with other estate agents in the area. Overall i would recommend Halifax in my area but there are probably better companies out there offering more comprehensive deals. General rule applies - Shop arou... more

I have used Halifax to sell a house but not to buy - although i have viewed a number of houses with them. I like the fact that all houses are advertised on Rightmove - a national advertising website. They also do a large double page spread in our local paper. Halifax offices are quite nice and inviting. All the staff ive ever dealt with - from office staff to the people you meet on accompanied viewings, were nice and helpful. I bought my first property last year through Halifax. What a horrible experience! Not wanting to get in over my head, before even LOOKING at properties I had spoken to an independent financial advisor and arranged a mortgage at a rate I was happy with. I figured that this way, as soon as I found a house I liked I would be good to go. Halifax weren't at ALL happy with this. It wasn't good enough that I wanted to put a bid in on one of their properties - they wanted me to get the mortgage too, whether I liked it or not. I was told that it didn't matter what my financial advisor said, they could offer better because they didn't sell through ... Read the complete review

Halifax (Catford branch) - this relates to 2004/5 I don't like it when agents overvalue property (just to get you to sign up to them and then they ask you to reduce the price to generate interest) or to under value your property (just to get a quick sale on your property). Well Halifax (Catford), undervalued my property. I have now sold my property and can confirm I managed to get more then their valuation. If agents want to undervalue property, they should reduce their commissions! So I was right not to sign up to ... Read the complete review

I am currently trying to sell my house. Halifax came and gave me a high valuation, I was really pleased and placed the sale sole agency with them. However, they wouldnt negiate the fees or 12 week minimum period saying this was the best deal including all discounts. They said they would definitely sell the house at the price, so I thought I would be able to afford the higher than expected fees, as the valuation was higher than I thought. Not having bought/sold for 15 years I was very naive. I now realise that they over-priced the house so I would place the business with them. Now they say I must reduce the price for a sale, so I would have been better off going ... Read the complete review
