I feel in a good position to write about Halifax Property Services. They are basically a front and don't give a toss about how many houses they sell or the service. The reason Halifax bought into Estate Agency was Mortgages and that is all they want to sell you. As a member of staff it is drummed into you to sell mortgages they don't care if you don't sell a single house as long as you get a few mortgages sold. They are also ridiculously expensive. When I worked there I looked into selling my own house through them and was told that being a staff member I was entitled to a discount - great - £50 discount- not so great. They wanted to charge me a £2,000 fee. I had a word with another agent who I had got to know from another company and he was willing to do the sale for £695 + Vat. You will find that in an average town they are around £200 more expensive than anybody else. They will only advertise your property 1 ad in 3 whereas most others will do every week. The staff are not up to the jobs but they cannot exopect them to be for the amount they pay them . The Halifax like to take on unexperienced people and train them rather than paying for experienced members of staff. this is great for the other agents they let the Halifax train the staff up and they come along and poach them and Halifax are back to stage one. The mortgages are not the cheapest as you would be led to believe it is all to doo with twisting the figures and looking at it from diffrent prospectives and small print, but you will find this with all lenders. The smaller lenders are the best to go with as they have to offer good deals because they do not have such strong brands as halifax, barclays etc who can just blind you wish advertising and sales talk. I could go on all day about them but I will leave it at this for the meantime if anybody wishes to know more or has questions drop themm ina comment to this siet and i wil pick them up.
