I have moved several times and have become bored of the cliches that the estate agents use ( I should know I was one a long time ago)Don't let them bully you into selling your home with them, it's yours and you can sell it with anyone that you choose. If you can try to negotiate a fee it isn't written in stone! If you aren't happy with the service then complain and try someone else, if you believe in fate then you'll know that if it's meant to be it will be regardless of who sells it. I recently saw a house that needed a lot of work and would take a lot of cash to restore. I naturally offered a lot lower than the asking price. After many raised offers I was led to believe that 'of course someone had bid higher'. The classic cliche! Never mind, it's just a house and I'll try to find another one.

Why is it that when you specifically state an area or a price range you are sent endless properties that you couldn't afford. Is it in the hope we might just scrape the money together?

The most helpful I have encountered over the years is Parkers or Sansome and George. The best policy is always to shop around and if they slip in the cliches then mention it, they'll never improve their service if the public don't tell them.
