Advantages: Just maybe we will live in a new dream home

Disadvantages: Stress, money, more stress!

I really wanted to talk to you about this because it is becoming all consuming. Thank goodness I’ve recently been put onto Dooyoo so I have something else to think about! Here’s the thing, have you ever tried to sell a house? If you have I hope you can identify with some of what I have to say if not your day may come.

My husband and I (cor I sound like the queen), have thought about moving away for years but wanted to wait until our children had finished school etc. Well they certainly have now, two are married and the other, well we won’t talk about that, only joking, she is living together very happily with her lovely fella. We have three young foster children living with us but decided we were not going to wait for them to grow up too so they will move with us.

Ignoring the ridiculous prices of houses (which does few people any good and makes anybody trying to buy their first home feel like quitting before they begin!), the whole sorry process is awful. Do you sell your home first and then go and look for a new one, or do you, like me look at the same time, fall in love with the house of your dreams and risk losing it because buyers are slow to materialise? Well as I’ve said I looked first and as we are moving to a less expensive area, found a house better than I could have imagined. It really did have everything I wanted and the setting seemed perfect.

It probably wont surprise you to hear that someone else came along that could go through with it all quicker and yes they are probably even at this moment deciding where to put their furniture! Don’t despair on my behalf because there are other nearly as nice houses and I know we will get one that we will be happy with (actually I’ve found another one but please don’t tell a soul incase they come and buy it quicker). Now back to the point, selling a house is so laborious.

We found an estate agent, who agreed to try and sell our lovely
home for us at an agreed percentage, well they do work hard don’t they, and have you seen the cars they drive? They are so full of talk but there seemed to be very little action. We had the cheek to go away for a few days, we told our agent and left them our mobile number and even our front door key. I hoped we might come back to news of interested parties, but stupid me! All we came back to was a message on the answer machine saying a couple were desperate to view our house and were only in the area for a couple of days. Those two days had passed and they had not been shown our house! Why had they not phoned us or simply used the key we had provided? Nobody knows all I got was “ Oh yes you did say you were going away didn’t you?”

We decided to put our house on with another agent too and by this time it was looking so good I was beginning to wonder why we were moving in the first place. We had tidied, cleaned, cleared clutter and the garden was the best I’d ever seen it.

We have lived in our home for 15 years and watched our children grow from kids into fantastic adults (all true, no bias I promise) so of course it is full of memories. So when people walk around looking, marvelling at my kitchen and the size of all the rooms why don’t they come back and buy it?

I’m not getting depressed honestly because now we have two couple showing ‘a keen interest’ and I have a very good feeling about one of them in particular (funny if they are Dooyooers and reading this) so please keep fingers and toes crossed for us.

If you find some of my writings rubbish I apologise, move on by and try me again later please. Remember poor old Millergirl with her house moving trauma and still with tooth ache (see 12 reasons not to go to the dentist) and note that Dooyoo is managing to keep me almost sane!

This morning we’ve just had an offer £20,000 under the asking price, thanks
a bunch, maybe they’d like a ribbon round it too!

If you fancy a bit of advice, if you start thinking about moving, go and pour yourself a stiff drink and log on to Dooyoo instead!

I totally understand, I am about to buy my first house and that's bad enough, it must be mad trying to sell one at the same time...
Great op though, made me feel better.
