Advantages: None I can think of

Disadvantages: Delays, Misinformation, Poor interpersonal skills

We've used Reeds Rains for both buying and selling in separate transactions, and at every step of each transaction have been astonished by the incompetence displayed by Reeds Rains staff.

Of course we've only dealt with one branch and the others may be different, however our experience has been pretty consistent.

Reeds Rains staff are poor communicators - they fail to get the significant information across to buyers, sellers, solicitors and other interested parties. This is exasperated when they manage to rub everyone involved up the wrong way - they are rude and unaccomodating to both buyers and sellers. In order to appear to be contributing, they badger all parties with relentles annoying phone calls which without exception to date have not told us anything we didn't already know. As in other dooyoo Reeds Rains reports, buyer and seller have had to liaise directly to cut Reeds Rains out of the loop in order for any progress to be made.

Reeds Rains are poorly organised - anything we might ask them they would never know, and even the simplest administrative tasks take weeks or even months to complete.

They are practically materially incompetent - for example room measurements taken by Reeds Rains and subsequently published were sometimes not inches but over six feet out.

Most crucially though they add considerable burden to the process in unnecessary ways. Information critical to the transaction is repeatedly wrongly and inconsistently wrongly given to both buyer and seller by the same individual, even on the same day. This happened on several issues, and repeatedly over a period of weeks on one issue alone. I can only assume that this is down to misorganisation and incompetence, rather than deliberate deception.

Finally specific individuals have exhibited quite bizarre behaviour with both buyers and sellers, which I can't explain at all, however it has certainly not helped business.

In short Reeds Rains brought nothing to the process for seller or buyer, other than delay and frustration. They have added at least two months to our latest (otherwise straightforward) cash purchase.

Sounds like most of the large estate agents up north are much the same.
I tend to use local one or two man agents. Much better as they have a smaller client base and appreciate your business more. I've found the worse ones were Larards and Beercock, Wiles and Wick.
Good opinion with lots of description without waffling.
