After having had a good experience with Bishop's six years ago, I contracted Bishop's move for a relatively modest removal from the UK to the US, from December 2010 to January 2011. Despite clear documentation in agreeing the estimate that the destination was an apartment in an elevator building, Bishop's subsequently pointed to a 'fine print' clause excluding above ground floor delivery. On that basis, their US agent then pursued me with multiple extra charges, significantly changing the total cost, to a point where one of the original competitors that I had compared to Bishop's would have been cheaper. In addition, despite assurances to the contrary, Bishop's did not repack my personal paper and photos in cardboard boxes upon the initial removal, which would have protected them from humidity in transit. Instead, the removers simply shipped things in my own plastic boxes that were fine for storage inside my home but completely inappropriate for transatlantic shipping. A totally negative experience.
