Advantages: User friendly, up to date, quick house searching, good advertisement
Disadvantages: Doesn't say if a house is sold
This website is fantastic if your searching for a house to buy or want your house to recieve as much advertisement as possible. It's a long process going to different estate agents, giving them your details and telling them what type of house your looking for especially on those colder days, so visiting their websites and filling out your criteria is better, right? Wrong. The answer is Rightmove.
It should be your first port of call when looking for a house, you can fill out your criteria whether your looking for a flat, house, four bedroom, three bedroom, semi-detatched and also select your chosen price ranges. Then Rightmove gathers all the houses that fit your criteria from all the estate agents such as Manning Stainton, Halifax, Alan Cooke and so many more. This is much easier as then you can compare all the houses that are available to you.
This website is good if you like to regularly check houses as and when they become available. You can save your favourite searches, save selected houses in your account (a bit like a wishlist, lol) and you can choose only to view houses that have been added t the site in the last 24 hours, 3 days, 5 days etc. so you don't keep having to see the same old houses.
As well as advertising houses for sale, they also advertise houses for rent from letting agents such as Linley and Simpson and houses overseas including the USA and European countries which is great to easily search for your dream house abroad. Another feature of Rightmove is that it lets you see how much houses actually sold for since 2000. This gives you a better idea of how much a house is actually worth as apposed to what it's asking price is.
The website stays very up to date, it has pictures and measurements of the rooms. The only thing I can fault is, it doesn't always show that the houses that are no longer available as 'sold subject to contract', instead they're either just removed from the website or are still shown as available which is very disappointing if you like a house only to find out it's sold.
As someone selling a house, this website is great for making sure your house gets the most internet exposure it can. So many people visit this website every day, having your house advertised on here is much more efficient than having it in the paper or in the window of an estate agent.
Overall, I highly rate this website, recently it has been handed many competitors such as findaproperty.com and hotproperty.co.uk but neither of these can compete. Rightmove is user friendly and is an essential tool when looking for a new house.
Summary: The ultimate tool for home searching and advertisement!

- 11/01/09 It may have got better, but a few years ago lots of houses would appear, I'd ring on the first day, and it would turn out they'd been sold days ago, before they even hit the website. |
