This review relates to a sale in 2004/2005. Your Move came through for me for me in a sale. At the time the market was slow and the property I had to sell was not perfect.
I took up a multi-agency deal to maximise my chances. It choose (i) Your Move and (ii) CW Mann (they are since gone) both in Catford.
I found CW Mann would phone me up 2 weeks and ask me to reduce the price by £5,000. I asked Your Move if I should reduce the price as suggested by CW Mann and they said this was NO it was not necessary and that my asking price was fair and reasonable.
So in my view Your Move was working for ME. CW Mann just wanted me to lower the price, just to get a quick sale. I did pop in to CW Mann's office and they were too busy making personal calls!
I spoke to another C.W. Mann customer and she was having sale problem with them - asking her to reduce her price by 5k every other week.
Your Move did get an offer, but the first buyer fell through, but they kept me up-to-date and were honest all times. Some agents will not tell you the any bad news. The second buyer went through fine!
Your Move were persitent with the sale and they were honest and fair.
I also, got a few referals from their New Cross branch and one from Dartford branch. Although each is self-managed, they do seem to pass referal (they get cross-commission which encourages them to sell branches in other areas).
The only negative point was once when I went into the office (posing as a customer) and innocently ask about one property and he told me buyer will take £145,000 for the property when the asking price was £160,000. In my view this was unproffessional to disclose the clients lowest price. It is the job of an agent to get the best price. But I think this is down to the individual staff rather then the branch. But don't let that put you off - just don't disclose your lowest price! (that is good advice to any seller!).
I have read other bad reviews about Your Move, but people should be specific about the branch they are talking about. Also remember that staff DO MOVE AROUND!. You should interview the PEOPLE rather trust the company name. Go to the branch and see how they work. As of 2007, the key people at Your Move are still there!
Thankfully, CW Mann have closed down. But their Woolwich branch was excellent! (so you can't compare names!).
I had interviewed other agents (2004/5):
- Halifax (Catford) - The manager gave me a low valuation (I managed to sell at higher price with Your Move)
- Uniplan (Catford) - did not bother to send me copy of contract /valuation. No follow up calls.
- Acorn (Catford) - not helpful
- Beaumont Residential - wanted me to sell at give-away price (I think they are gone?). Not to be confused with another company with similar sounding name.
- David Atkin & Co - did signup with them after I got rid of CW Mann - after 4 weeks my property was still not listed in their window. Useless Agent. Asked for the keys back.
Summary: Your Move (Catford) came through for me!
