Sony STR DG820B ... bought a ps3 and liking the blu ray function i thought it was time to upgrade my ageing Pioneer receiver and make use of the hdmi goodness. Opening up the box revealed the receiver to be well packaged with everything neatly inside. It looks a real beast of a receiver and dwarfs my old pioneer, it s not ugly looking at all, it just looks very functional! Set up was really easy and it even comes with a little sound test mic/dongle that you position in your room where you would sit. Apple TV 160 GB ... was a bit dubious about this product when I heard about it, but it is a real godsend. For years, we have wanted to be able to watch content from the computer on the TV. We ve had a range of solutions , none of which has been user-friendly or worked. The Apple TV just solves this problem, perfectly. You put your video content into iTunes, then synch it with the Apple TV. The Apple TV interface is beautiful and simple (as you d expect from Apple). The remote control is tiny and very straightforward. (I think you can also use an iTouch or iPhone as a remote.) It lets you listen to your iTunes music on your main stereo system, too. Marantz SR-5000 ... am a big fan of watching films. If I m honest, it is probably my favourite hobby. I love sticking a film on, ignoring the world for a couple of hours and escaping into the world of the film. Sadly I don t get as much time to do this as I would like but there are still occassions when I do. Going to the cinema is ok but it is quite expensive really one you start adding on top all the things that accompany a trip to the cinema, petrol to get there, parking, food, drink etc. It can make for a very expensive hobby really.
