Denon AVR-1804:
... used ours to replace our ageing hi-fi alongside a Denon DVD player and a Bush turntable. The sound is so fantastic that we have never gone back to using the TV s inbuilt speakers. Most of the time, we use 5-channel stereo, providing clear sound all around the room. When we watch programmes with Dolby 5.1, it switches automatically. How could you have HD and not surround sound? The subtle sounds are reproduced ve... Read the full review: Denon sound systems are among the best by HeIsSean |

Sony STR DG710/S ... Sony STR-DE710 is a 6.1 channel AV reciever, that has 2 HDMI inputs with one HDMI output, 2 Digital Optical, 1 digitial coaxial, and 6 phono/composite (Red, white + yellow) inputs. I can confirm that this AV reciever does have HDMI audio, which means you can get Dolby digital or DTS straight from the HDMI cable, if using something like an Xbox 360, PS3, Sky HD or HDMI dvd player. Which is a huge convenience. It reduces the amount of cables that I thought i would need as i don t need the optical cables aswell as the HDMI cables going to the device. The quality of this device is very good for the price range, think i picked mine up for £120. I don t have a sub hooked ... Pioneer VSX 516-S ... purchased a VSX-516 Pioneer Audio/ Video Multi-Channel Receiver to replace a Technics AV Control Stereo Receiver which Display Screen was no longer working although the Technics unit was working fine otherwise. The Pioneer A/V Unit keeps tripping-off whenever I use the CD player - after about ten-minutes of playing time. I have not hooked the Pioneer Receiver to the DVD player or TV to see if this tripping-off problem is evident with all external components. COMMENTS from other users will be appreciated. The Pioneer Receiver sounds fine otherwise.... Read the full review: Pioneer AV Receiver Problem by Stephen Noel McCarthy |

Yamaha RX-V457 ... is a bargain of a receiver. Shares the same decoders are more expensive receivers. The sound is very clean and accurate. This is useful for a receiver. If however you are using is for listening to music, it is good but not perfect. If you listen to just classical and jazz, it would be excellent. However if you like pop and dance, even on the highest bass settings you sometimes wish for some more. However don t think that the bass in however thin, its not. Regardless of tonal settings, this almost never runs our of power. It will only clip and distorting at its limit, its highest volume settings. I wish it had more digital inputs. Has 2 optical, and 1 coaxial. I w... Read the full review: Its great. Not perfect, but up there. by George |
