Great entry level AV receiver (Onkyo TX SR505)

I have lived with this AV receiver for about 2 years now and it does everything I ask of it.

The build quality of Onkyo products is high and when you try to lift this beast you appreciate the quality.
This AV receiver has an HDMI switch which is handy, note this is a pass-through only but handy when you try and connect all those inputs.
The power of this amp shakes my apartment despite the fact I only have small satellite speakers and a dedicated amp.

The best feature of this amp by far is the Audyssey 2EQ feature. Onkyo provide you with a little microphone that you use to setup up the AV receiver. The fact that the receiver actually auto configures all the speakers and sub is brilliant. It allows you to setup multiple sitting locations and balances all the speakers so the sound hits you at the same time.

People have complained that this amp is ugly but I have it in black and to be honest it's quite un-intrusive.

The amp works well with my all-in-one Logitech harmony remote.

The only downside of the amp is that it doesn't deal with the HD sound formats. This means it will not decode the HD sound from a bluray player; but if the player can decode and pass it over analogue cables to the amp, this is a workaround.

For the money this is available for now, it is a cheap entry level amp for people interested in home cinema.

Summary: Good entry level AV receiver for people who are starting out in home cinema.
