I bought my 1200ES as I have a number of games consoles, and also sometimes play music over optical through a laptop. I have a 5.1 setup (Acoustic Energy speakers) although the device does support up to 7.1. In general I am extremely pleased with this amp, it sounds great, its packed with features and has a fair degree of customisation. The inclusion of a microphone which will essentially calibrate your surround for you is a great addition, although you may want to go in and make your own adjustments for personal preference.
There's a huge range of connectivity, even packing in some legacy connections such as S-Video. However, a gripe occured when I got a 360 Elite - I wanted to connect the console to my amp via HDMI and hoped for the full experience. Unfortunately, although the device supports HDMI switching, it doesn't support the audio - so I would have to connect via optical to get the audio as well - which the Elite doesn't have.
Being fair, I could have researched this beforehand - so I can't really blame Sony - but the feature would be highly welcomed.
You can get these amps quite cheaply now, and it's hard to find any negative aspects at this price point!
