Great surround amp for movies and gaming

The Sony STR-DE710 is a 6.1 channel AV reciever, that has 2 HDMI inputs with one HDMI output, 2 Digital Optical, 1 digitial coaxial, and 6 phono/composite (Red, white + yellow) inputs.

I can confirm that this AV reciever does have HDMI audio, which means you can get Dolby digital or DTS straight from the HDMI cable, if using something like an Xbox 360, PS3, Sky HD or HDMI dvd player. Which is a huge convenience. It reduces the amount of cables that I thought i would need as i don't need the optical cables aswell as the HDMI cables going to the device.

The quality of this device is very good for the price range, think i picked mine up for £120. I don't have a sub hooked up as i have some bassy floor standers and large rear speakers, so can't comment on how it handles a sub. But for the setup that i have it sounds great for movies, I use the HDMI cable from a PS3 for DVD's and BluRays. It is also very good for gaming, I use an Xbox 360 and PS3 via HDMI and both sound very good, the rear sounds are spot on!

This device is the greatest with music, but i've heard worse AV recievers on Music.

Overall a top product for a lower price, but if you can afford it, it is probably worth spending a little more to get one that can handle HD audio.
