Sony STR DG710/S ... Sony STR-DE710 is a 6.1 channel AV reciever, that has 2 HDMI inputs with one HDMI output, 2 Digital Optical, 1 digitial coaxial, and 6 phono/composite (Red, white + yellow) inputs. I can confirm that this AV reciever does have HDMI audio, which means you can get Dolby digital or DTS straight from the HDMI cable, if using something like an Xbox 360, PS3, Sky HD or HDMI dvd player. Which is a huge convenience. It reduces the amount of cables that I thought i would need as i don t need the optical cables aswell as the HDMI cables going to the device. The quality of this device is very good for the price range, think i picked mine up for £120. I don t have a sub hooked ... Sony STR DE545 ... Sony str-de545 receiver offers allmost everything you need to start your own home cinema. The ratings are fair for the price: 5 x 100 w music power at 8 ohm, dts, dolby digital and dolby prologic. The radio part offers a rds-eon tuner with 30 presets for am and fm total. Due to the rds-eon the receiver can interupt a dvd or other source when traffic information is at hand or news. Personaly i just use the rds function wich identifies the station. The receiver has 2 digital inputs and 1 digital coax input, it can connect : dvd (1 optical digital 1 coax digital) , cd, tape / md / openreel, tv/sat (1 digital input), 5.1 (for example a dvd player with sacd function) , ... Sony STR DB940 ... my review is on the older version of the 940 amp, but I'm led to believe that the differences between the versions are mainly cosmetic. I purchased my amp in 1999 from my local Sony Centre for the "reduced" price as-was-then of £495. It had only just been released, and I had to wait some weeks before my silver-ordered unit was delivered. They "loaned" me a black version while I waited - a shop display unit, and tried to fob me off about me ordered silver unit, I think they wanted to pocket some cash by offloading their display model, and saving money on what was a more expensive silver finish.
