Sony STR DE545 ... Sony str-de545 receiver offers allmost everything you need to start your own home cinema. The ratings are fair for the price: 5 x 100 w music power at 8 ohm, dts, dolby digital and dolby prologic. The radio part offers a rds-eon tuner with 30 presets for am and fm total. Due to the rds-eon the receiver can interupt a dvd or other source when traffic information is at hand or news. Personaly i just use the rds function wich identifies the station. The receiver has 2 digital inputs and 1 digital coax input, it can connect : dvd (1 optical digital 1 coax digital) , cd, tape / md / openreel, tv/sat (1 digital input), 5.1 (for example a dvd player with sacd function) , ... Pioneer VSX-D811 ... Initial Note - My parents recently travelled to the States, and was expecting a gift when they got home, but have instead bought the Pioneer Reciever. They had been talking about getting a good surround system, as they watch the television quite a lot (too much), and generally listen to a lot of music when entertaining. I must say they have got a brilliant buy, and at an affordable price. (Prices are generally a lot cheaper if you buy in the states, and therefore got a bargain at only US $349, which at todays exchange rate is £188, which may I say is a lot cheaper than at home) However, even at the UK prices I think this system is well worth a try. Denon AVR-2802 ... my Sony AV Receiver decided to malfunction, I read reviews in HI-Fi mags and searched the internet for a replacment AV receiver. My budget was £700. I deceided on the Dennon AVR 2802 as my choice as I had previously owned Dennon products. They sounded good and where very durable. After serching for the best price I was able to buy the Dennon for a bargin price for £350, the RRP was £700. The AVR 2802 was set up, and a test DVD inserted into my DVD player, namely Pink Floyd's the wall.
