Advantages: Eating them
Disadvantages: Calories show on your tummy and bum
Halloween is coming up, and I found a fabulous book in Tesco the other day that lists recipes for this, also my son's school recently had a coffee morning, and I purchased a cook book made by them--some good recipes here too.
Here are a few of the things I think would look great if you are having a halloween/childrens party.
SPONGE DOMINOS
You will need,
One long maderia cake
75g Butter
125g Icing Sugar
Red writing icing pen
Vanilla essence
Hot water
Sweeties to decorate (jelly tots, smarties etc.
Cut the maderia cake into 3 bars, then cut each piece into six, so you have rectangle shaped cakes.
Mix together in a bowl the butter and icing sugar,1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence and one teaspoon of hot water. Mix together until smooth and creamy texture.
Spread this on the top of each rectangle sponge piece.
Draw round the full rectangle of cake, and then draw line in midle to divide. Add sweets to each section, like the way you would see the dots on a domino peice.
TIP----YOU CAN FREEZE THE CAKE WITH ICING ON TOP, AND ADD THE SWEETS WHEN READY TO DEFROST AND USE.
BUG MALLOWS
You will need
Pack of chocolate teacakes (tesco value are probable just the right bite size as smaller than other brands ie tunnocks)
Red writing icing
Chocolate spread
Black writing icing
Smarties
Colour along the crease on the front of the mallow with the red icing pen, in a line to represent the mouth.
Put two blobs of chocolate spread near the top half of the mallow
stick two smarties to this, and draw a dot with the black icing pen to indicate eyes.
PUMPKIN SWEETS
You will need
Icing sugar
Orange ready to roll icing
Brown ready to roll icing
Roll the orange icing between plams of your hands, first having dusted your hands with icing sugar. Roll into ball shapes, and then place on a greased tray.
Flatten each ball slightly to make pumpkin shape.
Roll the brown icing into a thin rope and cut into short lengths. Take one of these and dampen very slightly using your pinky one end and then secure it to the top of the pumpkin.
To make the markings, use the back of a knife and draw lines running from the top of the pumpkin to the bottom.
WITCHES HATS
Ice cream cones
Milk chocolate
Digestive biscuits
Trim the top of each of the cones, so you have only the hat shape left. Melt the chocolate in a saucepan and spreak over each cone. Allow to dry . Next spread over the digestive biscuits and stick the cone to the top.
GINGERBREAD
(CAN BE CUT INTO HALLOWEEN SHAPES BOUGHT OR BY HAND ie BATS, BROOMSTICKS)
You will need
125g butter
100g Soft brown sugar
4tbs Golden syrup
325g Plain FLour
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
2tsp ground ginger
Icing sugar
Put sugar, butter and syrup in to a pan and melt until the sugar dissoles, then remove pan from the heat.
Sieve the flour, and put this the bicarbonate of soda and ginger into a mixing bowl.
Stir in the melted ingredients and mix to form a soft dough.
Sprinkle flour on worksurface and rolling pin and roll out dough to approx 5mm thick.
You can then either cut by hand, or use a cookie cutter. I have made them and cut them into broomstick shapes, scoring small lines on the bottom half with a fork to look like the straw.
Bake for 9-10 mins and allow to cool. You can then also decorate these with an icing pen depending on what shapes you have chosen.
TIP--You can also cut out rectangle shapes in the pre baked dough, ice all over when cooked and using an icing pen mark writing on to them for gingerbread post cookies---or mark as santa for xmas.
Hope you find these useful, I have made a few, and am making the rest for my halloween party.
spooooooooooooooooooooky..(I have added this as at the end of the review the words count was 666!)
