Advantages: Full of Flavour

I haven't done any of these recipe reviews before, but I though I would share a delicious Braised Beef and Onion dish known as a Stefado (also referred to as a 'Stifatho'). The Stefado has its origins in Greek cuisine and is a common sight on the menus of Greek restaurants.
If cooked correctly, you will end up with an aromatic concoction with the succulent and tender beef chunks infused with an orangey flavour.
Ingredients
- - - - - - - - -
To make the Stefado you will need:
1kg Steak (Beef Braising or Stewing Steak is recommended)
30g Butter
1 Chopped Medium Onion
400g tin of tomatoes
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Teaspoon of Sugar
Quarter Teaspoon of Cinnamon
Quarter Teaspoon of Nutmeg
500g of Baby Onions
1 Bay Leaf
125ml Water
125ml Dry Red Wine
5-7cm Piece of Orange Rind
2 Cloves of Garlic Crushed
Method
- - - - - -
1. Cut the steak up into 2cm square cubes. Now heat the butter and the oil in a large pan. Add the steak and cook until browned then remove the steak
2. Put the chopped onion, orange rind and the garlic into the pan whilst stirring until the onion is soft. Now add the tin of tomatoes (undrained), wine, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and water, and then re-add the steak. Cover up and simmer for an hour.
3. Get a separate pan and heat some extra oil and fry the baby onions whole until browned.
4. After the steak mixture has had its hour, add the onions and simmer for another 20 minutes. Finally remove the lid a simmer for a further ten minutes until the sauce thickens.
Hopefully you'll be face to face which a delicious beef dish.
Summary: Excellent Continental Dish
