Advantages: Nice Filling Meal That Is Easy To Make
Disadvantages: Not That Fast
Ham and Cheese Pancakes
These are always good for a nice little lunch time each and can be enjoyed by most people, I have cooked a few of these in my time, although I still look to change the ingredients around to make improvements. This serves 4 people, so alter the quantities as desired. This is quite filling for most people, although this is only really suitable for a lunch meal and not a dinner, but a side could be added to bulk up the dish. Although not the quickest dish to make, it is easy and a nice way to feed friends or family on a budget when you don't have much in the house, although we usually don't have that many pancakes lying around the house. This though is really more of a student meal, but then students always need to eat on a budget, but still fill themselves up, so this is really ideal for purpose, enjoy. By the way, this is in the brunch section, as it could be used for that kind of meal and I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it.
Ingredients:
8 Pancakes (You could make these yourself, or simply buy some in as they are usually pretty cheap for plain ones)
Vegetable Oil
50g Butter
40g Plain Flour
600ml Milk
Salt and Pepper
300g Sliced Ham
Small slab of Cheese
Instructions:
1) Heat the oven to around 200C, or the equivalent for other types of ovens.
2) Melt the butter in a saucepan at a low heat then sprinkle on the flour.
3) Cook this for around 2 minutes, making sure that you are constantly stirring. And the slowly add in the milk and bring it to a boil, again remembering to stir constantly.
4) Allow to simmer for a couple of minutes and the take the pan off the heat, adding a generous amount of salt and pepper.
5) Add in the ham and cheese, which should be grated, and stir well, making sure the ham is spread out in the sauce.
6) Split the sauce over the 8 pancakes, placing it in a line down the middle and roll the pancakes up. Place them on a shallow baking tray and put them in the oven for around 15 minutes.
7) Serve as they are, or add cocktail sticks if they fail to stay together, eat whilst hot for the best flavour.
Summary: Good Brunchy Sort Of Meal With Mainly Casual Household Ingredients
